Can anyone help? > > Thank you, > Dayna Ryan > Xenia, OH Your Thomas Miles may be identical to one of the Thomas Miles who served in the 10th Ky. Infantry (Union) in the Civil War. The 10th Ky. was made up mostly of recruits from Washington County, Kentucky, but also Marion County. All the Miles who were in the 10th were (listed by name, rank and Company of this regiment): Miles, Chas. Henry, Pvt., Co. B. Miles, Henry, Pvt., Co. B Miles, James M., Pvt., Co. B. Miles, Joseph, Pvt., Co. E Miles, Thomas, Pvt., Co. B Miles, Thos., Pvt., Co. K According to the Washington County Historical Book Company E was mostly men from Manton, Kentucky which is south of Springfield. Some may have joined from Marion County. I do not know exactly where the other Companies came from. You can search for other names at this website: http://w3.one.net/~durp/CivilWar/Union.htm While we have listed over 35,000 men, it is not a complete listing. I've taken some time off from this project but we will add more in the future. There were 100,000 Kentuckians who fought for the Union from Ky., and 40,000 who fought for the South. Eventually we may be able to list all of them for people to look up. Your post caught my eye because my great granduncle, Richard Miles Fields fought for the 10th Ky. I have always wondered where the "Miles" came from in his middle name - there's probably a connection to your Miles. Happy Hunting for your ancestors. Mark Franklin, Ohio
