Hi all: Before I start with my query, I just want to warn you that I am posting this to several lists so please use your delete key if you get more than one <g> For some time I have been trying to untangle several families that seem to have all been part of the Catholic migration from the St. Marys Co MD area and I am still looking for definative answers. I'd be happy for opinions on my conclusions even if you don't relate to the specific families... at this point I am just trying to be sure I am on the right track. Here's what I have: Randle (aka Randolph) HOSKINS (frequently spelled HODSKINS): Conclusion #1 I think his full name was Joseph Randle Hoskins for the following reasons: 1. Tax and census lists - A Randle and a Joseph R. Hoskins show up in Washington Co Tax and census lists in different years, however they appear to be in the same location (1820 shows Randolph Hoskins, 1830 lists Joseph R. Hoskins with same neighbors - including Andrew Mudd and Gabriel Mattingly) 2. Too much coincidence - Joseph R. Hoskins lived next door to Vincent Hoskins in the Washington Co KY 1830 Census. Randle Hoskins provided surety for Vincent Hoskins' marriage. 3. Somewhere (Pioneer History of Washington Co??) I came up with a death date for Randle of June 21, 1834. A cemetary book lists the grave of Joseph Hoskins who died June 21, 1854 in the St Charles Cemetary in Marion Co. I suspect the year 1854 is a misreading of the stone. Does my conclusion that Joseph R. and Randle are the same person make sense?? Conclusion #2 Randle was the husband of Susanna (Lusansia) Mollihorne 1. Susanna's father, James Mollihorne, left one shilling to Susanna (Lusansia) Hoskins in his will 2. Randle served as guardian to Elizabeth Molohon (niece of Susanna Mollihorne) and gave permission for her to marry Michael Spencer in Washington Co KY on Jan 31, 1800. 3. In an affidated on behalf of the pension application of Bennett Dailey, Randolph Hoskins stated he lived 5-6 miles from where Dailey lived in Charles Co MD - making it possible that he met Susanna in MD (ok that's a stretch <G>) Does this marriage seem likely? ---- Vincent HOSKINS (HODSKINS) Conclusion 1: Closely related to Randle Hoskins (son or brother) 1. Randle provided surety for Vincent's marriage to Elizabeth MOLOHON (her second marriage) on June 25, 1812 2. They were next-door-neighbors in 1830 Conclusion 2 (a tough one): There were two men named Vincent Hoskins, both married to women named Elizabeth 1. The primary evidence here has to do with Elizabeth. The Elizabeth Hoskins who is buried with Vincent Hoskins at St. Lawrence Cemetary in Daviess Co was born on May 18, 1790 and died Nov 11, 1875 according to her tombstone. If this is actually Elizabeth MOLOHON then she would have married Michael Spencer at age 10 - pretty unlikely even back then. The Vincent Hoskins buried with her was listed as born June 17, 1787 and died June 6, 1868. An Elizabeth HOSKINS listed as a widow born in MD and age 70 died in July of 1854 in Marion Co KY. This Elizabeth Hoskins appears to be Elizabeth MOLOHON since her death at age 70 in 1854 would make her born about 1784 and around 16 when she married Michael Spencer - a much more likely scenario. Since Elizabeth Molohon Hoskins was still alive in the 1850's, and was listed as a widow at her death in 1854, it seems unlikely that the Vincent Hoskins buried in Daviess Co is the same as the Vincent Hoskins she married. Does this make sense?? Finally - I believe that John Benjamine HOSKINS (in Taylor Co KY by 1850 married to Sarah Margaret WISE) was the son of either Randle or Vincent. This is a combination of family lore, coincidence (John and his first wife Unknown GREEN, d/o Charles Green and Margaret MOLOHON, had a son named Charles Randall who was born in Marion Co.), and just plain gut feeling. I would really appreciate any comments on these conclusions as well as any "hard" info on these families. Thanks in advance!! Ann Hoskins-Brown Philadelphia, PA
