KY to Alathaire Abell. Believe John is a son of Joseph Abner Abell, and Alathaire may be Alathea Abell b. 1764 MD to Richard and Ann Abell. Alathaire also probably first wife of Joseph Abner. John Abell m. Dorothy Bowles 1/21/1825. Dorothy b. abt 1806 Washington Co.to Anthony and Alathaire Bowles, belive this is actually Alley Raley and Joseph Bowles, Alley recorded incorrectly as Alathaire inst of Aloysia, and Anthony a middle or baptismal name for Joseph, as it is a family name in his line. I find no evidence of an Anthony and Alathaire Bowles in Washington CO. Testees Joseph A. Abell, Enoch and Monica Bowles, surety Enoch Abell. Children of John and Dorothy(Bowles) Abell: 1) George Washington Abell, b. 6 Nov. 1828, baptized HNOM 21 Jan 1829, d. 16 Apr 1914, bur. HNOM, Calvary, Marion Co. KY. 1850 census shows George living with Louisa Bowles Murphy. May have served in Union 10th KY Infantry, Co. H. May have married Martha Ewing, dau. of John Ewing. 2) James Alexander Abell,baptized 18 Nov 1832 HNOM. GP: Louisa Bowles, J. Wathen. Not listed in 1850 Marion Co. census. 3)Rosella Abell, b. 1834. Living with Louisa Bowles Murphy in 1850 census. M. Alexander Tabler 1852 Marion Co. KY. Moved to Christian Co. IL, later to Andrew Co. MO. D. 1909 Andrew Co. MO. Living with Enoch and Elizabeth Pierceall Abell in 1850 census, is listed as Enoch Jr, but is NOT son of Enoch age 65 and Elizabeth age 64! May have served in Union 10th Kentucky Infantry, Co. H. 5) John Madison Abell, b. 26 Mar, 1839. Living with Elijah and Lucretia Abell Ewing in 1850 census. Moved to Christian Co. IL, m. Rebecca Hazlett Nelms abt 1858. Had 6 children. Left Rebecca and children, moved to TX, married Una Hammonds, had 4 children. Died bef 25 Dec 1900, Grimes Co TX. (My gg grandfather) 6) William David Abell , b.3 Mar 1843. Living w/ Henry and Elizabeth Abell Bland in 1850 census. Moved to Christian Co IL abt 1858? Then ? 7)Francis Lloyd Abell, b. 9 Jan 1843. Living with Enoch and Elizabeth Pierceall Abell in 1850 census. 8) Mary Jane Abell, b. 4 Feb 1845, baptized 1 Jun 1845 HNOM. Not listed in 1850 Marion Co.census. Married 1)James L. Brown abt 1863-65, he d. abt 1873-1880. Residedin Ohio Co. KY in 1880 census. Children of Mary Jane Abell and James Brown: a. Susan A. Brown, b. abt 1865 b. Eliza J. Brown b. abt 1867 c. Isaminta Brown b. abt 1871 Mary Jane married 2)Felix Napper 12 Jun 1880 Ohio Co KY; he resided Grayson Co KY. Apparently John and Dorothy were deceased by 1850, perhaps due to a cholera epidemic in KY in 1849. Would appreciate any responses! Beth Abel Jones
