    1. [KYMARION-L] BOBLETT/BOBLETZ, John b.
    2. Pamela K. Alves
    3. I am looking for information/ancesors of John BOBLETT/BOBLETZ b. ca 1799 in VA. He is listed in 1850 Washington Co., KY census with children: Harriet 30, John M. 25, James A. 23, David C. 21, & William G. 18. If I am following the correct John, he was indentured twice in Bedford Co., VA. Once in 1802 and again in 1807. His mother is listed as Katy Boblett/Bobletz on both documents. There is a marriage bond in Bedford Co. for John Boblitz & Sarah Hooven 20 Feb. 1816. John's son, James was born 1828 in Bedford Co. according to his marriage bond to Elizabeth Pamelia Simms Boblett (she married James' brother Henry first) in Washington Co. KY. Would like to exchange information with anyone that is interested in this line. Thanks Pam & Wayne Alves palves@henderson.net Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnraogk/index.htm

    1. [KYMARION-L] Looking for a few of my ancestors
    2. My grandfather was Mark Caldwell (born November 18, 1894, died March 5, 1990). He married Susan Emma Ryan (born March 23, 1897, died April 7, 1972). Her parents were Mary Josephine Mattingly (born June 7, 1872) and John William Ryan. I am looking for any information regarding the ancestors of Mark Caldwell and John William Ryan. I am also looking for the parents of Joseph Emmett Ford who is my great-grandfather. He married Susan Frances Spalding (born July 14, 1888) on February 7, 1907. There are some user pages at FamilyTreeMaker.com which contain much of the Marion County ancestry. I was able to obtain a great deal of information from these user pages: Descendants of Cezar Mattingly and Descendants of Thomas Mattingly II. The contact for this site is William Robert Mattingly who is originally from Marion County. I thank you in advance for any information you can provide. Sandy Caldwell SCaldwell@fuse.net

    2. Looking for any information concerning Rosa ?, wife of Joseph Back. Joseph and Rosa were married, probably in Marion County, around 1841 - 1842. Rosa was born in Kentucky around 1817. Dates and places of death and burial are not known. Their children were Jefferson (1843), Columbus (1845), Nicholas (1847), and John Robinson (1852). If anyone can find out Rosa's maiden name for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

    1. [KYMARION-L] WADE
    2. Hi, I am currently researching the Wade family from Washington County, Pennsylvania. John Wade and his children settled in Nelson and Washington counties in 1792. Greenbury Wade (married to Polly Smith), John Junior Wade (married to Martha "Patsy" Owens), and Joseph Wade (married to Barbara Jordan) may have later settled in Marion County, Kentucky. Their nephew, John Evan Wade, and his wife, Eleanor Brewer, and children also lived in Marion County. Any information on the Wade family would certainly help. Thank you, Mary Ann Wade

    1. [KYMARION-L] Harmon Family
    2. My great grandmother was Mary Ellen Harmon who is listed on page 552 of the 1850 census of Marion County with her mother Martha Harmon age 52 listed as head of the household. Apparently her father was already dead at that time. Does anyone know who her father was? Mary Ellen was born in 1828 and on September 30, 1850, she married James Riley in Washington County. He was the son of Smith and Nancy Shewmaker Riley. James and Mary Ellen moved to Marion County and lived in the Haysville/Riley Station area, and their eight children were born in Marion County. In 1877, they moved to Boone County Missouri. Would like to hear from anyone who has information about this Harmon family, especially the descendants of Martha Harmon. Also does anyone know the relationship of James Riley to the Rileys of Riley Station? Eva Dene Riley McCubbin

He married REBECCA BRYAN August 14, 1756 in Yadkin River, Rowan Co., North Carolina. She was born January 09, 1737/38 in near Winchester, Fredrick Co., Virginia, and died March 18, 1813 in Defiance, St. Charles Co., Missouri. Notes for DANIEL BOONE: . c. Nov. 2, 1734, Berks County, PA--d. c. Sept. 26, 1820, St Charles, MO. early American frontiersman and legendary hero who helped blaze a trail through Cumberland Gap, a notch in the Appalachian Mountains near the juncture of Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky.\ Boone had little formal schooling but learned to read and write. As a youth he moved with his family (English Quakers) to the North Carolina frontier. Most of his life was spend as a wandering hunter and trapper. Many white men had traversed Kentucky before Boone; hence, the legend that he was its discoverer needs qualification. Boone first went a short way thought Cumberland Gap to hunt in the fall of 1767, and he and several companions returned to Kentucky to trap and hunt in 1769-71. In 1773 Boone undertook to lead his own and several other families to Kentucky, but the group was attached by Cherokee Indians just beyond the last settlement. Two of the party, including Boone's son James, were tortured and murdered, whereupon the survivors turned back. In March 1775 Boone and 28 companions were employed by Richard Henderson's Transylvania Company to blaze a trail through Cumberland Gap. The company planned to establish Kentucky as the 14th colony. Despite Indian attacks, the party built the Wilderness Road, which ran from eastern Virginia into the interior of Kentucky and beyond and became the main route to the region then known as the West. It helped make possible the immediate opening of the first settlements in Kentucky; Boonesborough, Harrod's Town, and Benjamin Logan's. In August 1775 Boone brought his wife Rebecca and their daughter to Boonesborough. They were, except for a few women who had been captured by Indians, the first white women in Kentucky, and their arrival may be said to mark the first permanent settlement there. The plan to establish the 14th colony failed, however, and Kentucky was made a county of Virginia. Boone became a captain in the county's militia and a leader in defending Boonesborough against the Indians. He was captured by Indians in 1778 and was adopted as a son by the Shawnee chief, Blackfish. After five months he escaped to warn Boonesborough settlers of an impending attack. When the attack by British soldiers and Indians came (September 1778), the settlement successfully withstood a 10-day siege. Although a courageous and resourceful leader, Boone did not prosper. He established extensive land claims but could rarely make them good. After the American Revolution he worked as a surveyor along the Ohio River. He settled for a few years in Kanawha County, VA. (now West Virginia). Then in 1799, he followed his son Daniel Morgan Boone to Missouri, in Louisiana Territory, where he continued to hunt and trap. A legendary hero even at the time of his death, his fame spread worldwide when in 1823 Lord Byron devoted seven stanzas to him in "Don Juan." In a message dated 08/05/1999 4:09:37 PM Eastern Daylight Time, AHoskinsbr@aol.com writes: << Is there a Cemetery Book for Washington or Marion Co which shows where he is buried? >> Hi Ann, I don't know if you received any answers on this yet but I have a suggestion. I was at St. Charles last year. I had stopped at the Lebanon Public library first (a great genealogy section) and there is a cemetery listing there that was compiled by Thomas Gerald Thompson. You can copy all or parts of it or just jot down what you need. (I only copied part of the book and now wish I'd copied the whole thing.) Each listing tells the section where the person is buried. Then, when you get to the cemetery you can pick up a sheet that shows where each section is located. Good luck on your search. Wish I was going too! Lisa Florida

It closed on 11-2-1893 after Dr. Bailey's Death Ref: History Of Neosho County WW Graves Mr. Bailey is a native son of Kansas, born in the City of Topeka, May 2, 1868, his parents being Dr. M. and Lanra A. (Jarboe) Bailey. The family is of English origin, and was founded in Pennsylvania prior to the War of the Revolution. William Bailey, the grandfather of Seth J. Bailey, was born in either Pennsylvania or Ohio; at least it is known that be was in the latter state in pioneer days and there was engaged in farming and died before the birth of his grandson. He was of Quaker stock and married a Miss Garrettson, Dr. M. Bailey, the father of Seth J. Bailey, was born near the City of Salem, Ohio, in 1835, and was there reared and educated. As a young man he went to Muncatine, Iowa, in which city he was married, and about the year 1857 came to Kansas and for a time practiced medicine at Emporia, where one of his intimate friends was the late Senator P. B. Plumb. When the Civil war came on he became assistant surgeon of the First Kansas Volunteers, and later was made surgeon of that regiment, remaining with it throughout its various campaigns. Near the close of the war he was in Iowa, and after peace had been declared took up his residence at Topeka. He remained there, however, only until 1868, when he went to Fort Sill, Indian Territory, as surgeon of the Nineteenth Kansas Regiment, and continued in that capacity for six months, after which he returned to Topeka and again took up the practice of his profession. In 1871 he came to Chanute, and while he continued to practice his calling at various times from that year on, the greater part of his attention was given to a private banking business, conducted under the style of M. Bailey & Company. His medical degree was secured from the St. Louis Medical College and he was a man of skill and learning in his profession, but possessed various other talents as well. He was widely known for his personal integrity and public spirit, and during the two terms that he served as mayor of Chanute gave the city excellent service. He always supported the policies of the republican party. He was a member of the school board and did much to advance the cause of education. Doctor Bailey married Miss Laura A. Jarboe, who was born in 1839, in Illinois, and died at Chanute, in 1914, having survived the Doctor twenty-one years. Their children were as follows: L. 3. Hi Ann, I wonder if while you are in the Lebanon area if you could check to see if any Justice family members are buried thereabouts? My great-great grandpa Elbert Justice lost a couple wives before marrying my g-grandma Jane King and I haven't been able to find where these first wives and maybe their children are buried. Also haven't found marriage records for any of the wives, but Elbert lived in Lebanon area for at least 10 years before moving on to Lincoln. His family was from NC and his father lived in Casey County, KY. I have pretty much given up hope on finding where these other wives, or wife, are buried. Thanks for any help you might be and don't worry if you don't have the time. I'll get down there someday myself. 2. Hi everyone: I am going to be in the old Washington Co (now Marion Co) area week after next and am hoping to track down the grave of Joseph R. (Randal/Randolph) HOSKINS. I have in my notes - with no documentation of course :( - that he was buried in St. Charles Cemetery which I believe is in the Lebanon area. Is there a Cemetery Book for Washington or Marion Co which shows where he is buried? Can someone do a look-up? Also, do any of these records contain maps of the cemetery plots. One of my research pals was recently at the St. Charles Cemetery and didn't see him so either he's playing "hard to find" (which he's been doing for years!) or he's buried somewhere else. Am really excited about being back in the area. I spent a lot of time in Campbellsville (Taylor Co) while I was growing up and this will be the first time I've been back since the genealogy bug bit. I think I will be seeing things with totally different eyes! Thanks in advance-- Ann Hoskins-Brown
