Last year Magoffin Co. Historical Society honored The Joseph Hammon(d)s (father of Benjamin) and John Hamman (father of Phillip) families, we included any and all spelling of the name. I was on the planning committee and we tried everything we could think of to connect the two families including DNA but came up empty handed making the connection. It just seems strange that the two families lived in the same area but no connection. The John Hamman family came to Kentucky by way of Pennsylvania and Virginia and our Joseph Hammon(d)s family came by way of Virginia and North Carolina. We put up a monument for both men at their family"s cemetery and the Historical Society will be printing a book of all the information that they have collected I have done extensive research on our family and have all of the records of the six sons of Benjamin and Sarah that fought in the Civil War. The five brothers you mentioned and a sixth brother,Thomas Francis. He fought for the 8th Ky vol. infantry. 1. Hezekiah is buried in an unmarked grave in the National Cemetery in Richmond, Va. 2. Thomas was ill and his unit left him in Louisville, Ky and he is buried at Cave Hill National Cemetery in Louisville, Ky 3. Benjamin Jr. is buried in the Dr. Will May Cemetery in Salyersville, Magoffin Co., Ky 4. William Preston moved his family to Minnesota after the war and he is buried at Eden Valley, Meeker Co., Minnesota 5. John Wesley is buried in the Bluegrass Cemetery in Salyersville, Magoffin Co., Ky 6. Jeptha "Ira" was wounded at Kennesaw Mtn. Ga. and is buried in the National Cemetery, Chattanooga, Tennessee I have visited all of their graves except of Willam Preston.but I do have a picture of it and all the others. Here is the information on Hezekiah's oldest daughter 1. Celia b. 1-16-1852 d-4-26-1906 buried in Magoffin Co., Ky m. James Harvey Williams 4-7-1870 she wasn't mentioned in Hezekiah's pension records because she was over 16 yrs. old and too old to receive the $2 a month that the other children received. We can't find any records to verify who Eliza's parents were but did you know that she married a second time to a Benjamin Montgomery? I also have extensive information on his other children if you are interested. Donna (Hamons) Miller
