Constance. It's held on Labor Day weekend. The dedication of the Memorial Markers is on Sunday Sept 4th 2005. Last year it started on Thursday and ended on Monday. People came in and left on different days [when they had time]. I think this is the 27th year they have had a "Founders Day'. It is a very nice way to concentrate a major major effort to document and publish genealogy of one family. Because of intermarriages, it is a major undertaking by the historical society. The "Whitaker Books" from last year is being printed now. After the family books are published [usually 3-5 volumes] they will publish an index for the volumes the following year. The facility in Salyersville is packed full of research materials. They only operate with 2-3 volunteers, so they can't do extensive research for one individual. At times they have volunteers for specific projects. Last year I headed up the work for the Memorial Marker for Martha "Patsy" Whitaker. Another couple volunteered to go to Castlewood VA to get land/death/will/pictures documentation. Good Luck. Due to family obligations I need quite a bit of lag time in order to arrange these things. I think my son's grandma may want to know about this celebration as well since the Hammonds/Hammons are her family. Constance. I am in SC. Magoffin County is in Eastern KY. Go down US 23 from Portsmouth OH or east on the Mountain Parkway from Lexington KY. Salyersville is the county seat. The parkway ends at Salyersville. The historical society is downtown in an old post office. The have several restored log cabins on the property. Thanks Bob... Hum, I wonder where they married then? They are in the county in 1880 and 1900 according to the census. The kids were born there. I suppose that she could have been from another county and they married there. She might have died in Shelby county, so she could have had family there. I need to find out her maiden name. Constance

Constance. Last year was "Whitaker Founders Day" [I am a Whitaker]. I know they have markers ordered for both your Hammond SR and Hammond JR. Just recently they cleaned off the cemeteries. I found the Whitaker Founders day very rewarding and met many cousins there. Many I had never Known and a few I had only met on the internet. This year The Magoffin County Historical Society is having the Hammon/Hammond Founders day in the fall. They are in the midst of collecting information on this family and will publish genealogy on the family. If you call 606-349-1607 between about 10:30 AM and 5 PM they should be able to answer your question. They are volunteers but are very knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks Freddie: I'm not willing to buy them for the two marriages that I'm interested in. I was hoping that someone on the list might have a copy and be willing to do a look up. Constance
This information you have given is about my Benjamin's GRANDPARENTS. This Ben is not a Jr., but I'm happy to have the information about Ben, Jr. for my files. He was the brother of Hezekiah Hamon, my Benjamin's daddy. Four of Ben, Sr.'s boys enlisted in 1861 for the Union. Hezekiah was captured in Salyersville and died as a POW in Richmond, VA. Thanks for the information on my son's family. Would you tell me the source with author, publisher and page? I'd like that for my documentation. Constance
