    3. OKAY... I thnk I have found the right family. In 1850 a Wesley P. Cooper and his wife Catherine P. Cooper are living in Hartford, Ohio County, KY. In the family is Edward age 9, Mary F. age 6, and John W. age 6/12. Wesley is 31 years old, a farmer, born in KY. Catherine is 27, born KY. Next door is a John P. Cooper, age 37 born KY, farmer. This could be your John Wesley Cooper born 1850 like you thought. The census was taken 16th of August 1850, that would mean that John W. was born in Feb or so. Do any of these details match your information on J.W.Cooper? Constance

    3. Ed: I looked at the 1850. There are no Coopers in Menifee County (according to the indexing by Ancestry.com). There is a John Cooper in Morgan County born 1848 to Thomas and Mary Cooper, both born KY. John has a younger brother, David, age 2 months in the census. It could be him, but might not be either. Let me know. Constance

    1. Cooper, Adams, Stanely, Raines, Morrow, Magoffin County, KY
    2. Hi List, This is my first posting to this list in a long, long time. I'm hoping someone can help me. First of all does anyone know where I can find the 1850 Census for this county on line? I am searching for the parents of my Gr Grandad John Wesley Cooper born in 1849/1850 in Magoffin county. On his death Cert. it states his father as an unknown Cooper from KY and his mother as an unknown Adams from Magoffin County. I recently did a 25 marker on the DNA, I had no Cooper hits but 3 direct hits with people with the last names Stanely, Raines and Morrow. If anyone has any of these people with a Cooper marriage or can be any help it will be greatly appreciated Ed Cooper

    2. Stacey, Thank you so very much. This is a much need resource for our site and I don't have anything I can use. I appreciate any help I can get in this area and all others as well. I would like to see our Magoffin site grow to be one of the best. We can do it if we all work together. I am willing to work on anything you all send me, to get it on line. Thanks Gloria

    3. > Gloria, I've been wanting to write you and let you know that I haven't been sending obits because my subscription ran out and I haven't been getting the paper. If I can get a chance to renew, I'll start typing them again. Also, The Magoffin County Funeral Home website will be up and running shortly, so when it is, I'll send you a link. I have some cemetery photos. I'll either email them, or send them on disc. Now, I have several cemeteries, but not all stones in those cemeteries. However, the next cemetery I visit, I'll try to get photos of all of them. I have all of the cemetery books, but most of them were transcribed in the late 70's, so they need to be updated. I'll help all I can. Stacey

    1. Magoffin Cemeteries
    2. Is there anyone in Magoffin County that will do some cemetery readings and submit them to be posted on line? I have so many people wanting cemetery information and I have none. If you have a digital camera, it really doesn't take too long to photograph them and if you can send them in a file I will put the photos in a transcribed page with the dates. I am sure this would be greatly appreciated by many people who live in other states and are doing research in Magoffin County. I am the CC for other websites but Magoffin gets more searches on the search engine and so many of them are cemeteries. Please contact me if you would be willing to either do readings or photograph cemeteries. Thank you, Gloria [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])

    1. Magoffin site updates
    2. You can check the what's new page for additions to the Magoffin Co site. I want to give a very special thanks to Sharon Cox. She has been doing a tremendous job on building up the Obituary section, which has been much needed. If you have information, photos, documents, etc that you would like to submit please send them to me and I will get them on line. Do any of you have readings for the cemeteries in the county? This is something that is really needed and I don't live close enough to do those. Cemetery photos are also a good documentation for research. If you have these and would be willing to share please let me know. Thanks, Gloria

    3. A project is underway to clean and restore the cemetery where JILES (GILES) GREEN and his wife NANCY CHANDLER are buried, and to place a new stone marking their graves, as the original ones have fallen and are in poor repair. It is the hope of the committee that any other graves there will also be recorded for future marking. This cemetery is located on Rockhouse Fork in Johnson County, Kentucky, just off Kentucky Route 3387, near "Honey Lane". The James Green or Marcus Green Cemetery, where Jiles' second wife Margaret Ghent Yates is buried, is located there, also, on the west side of Route 3387. The Jiles Green Cemetery is on the east side, up on the hill. Both are located on the property of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Conley. The Jiles Green Cemetery is in very poor condition, overgrown, with no fence remaining, and stones fallen or missing. Only one upright stone was located in November 2004. Persons known to be buried there: Jiles (Giles) Green (s/o William Green & Judith Ann Gordon) (ca 1800-1881); Nancy Chandler, wife of Jiles (d/o Thomas Chandler & Amasa Jane) (1798-1845); William Green (s/o Jiles & Nancy Green) (1831-1926); Sarah Yates Green (d/o Joshua Yates & Margaret Ghent), wife of William (1828- 1902); Garfield Green (1873-1875) Suspected to be buried there: Judith Ann Gordon Green, wife of William Green, mother of Giles & Enoch Green; d. 1856 John Green, s/o Giles & Nancy Green Jemima Sparks Green, w/o John Green The size of the cemetery (130' x 65') would seem to indicate many more graves than these. If you know of anyone else buried in this cemetery, or have clues that indicate this as a possible burial site, please contact me. If you would like to contribute to this project, please send your contribution as soon as possible to: Helen Tackett P O Box 433 Kingsville, OH 44048 (Phone: 440-224-0119) Sincerely, Frankie Perry PO Box 216 Haines, Alaska 99827 My line: Jiles Green & Nancy Chandler> Thomas Green & Jemima Brown> Harman Green & Mary E.
