Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TBB.2ACI/2929.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Daniel, I a direct descendant of Benjamin and Sarah (Johnson) Hammon(d)s through their son Josiah who was a brother to your Hezekiah. Last year Magoffin Co. Historical Society honored The Joseph Hammon(d)s (father of Benjamin) and John Hamman (father of Phillip) families, we included any and all spelling of the name. I was on the planning committee and we tried everything we could think of to connect the two families including DNA but came up empty handed making the connection. It just seems strange that the two families lived in the same area but no connection. The John Hamman family came to Kentucky by way of Pennsylvania and Virginia and our Joseph Hammon(d)s family came by way of Virginia and North Carolina. We put up a monument for both men at their family"s cemetery and the Historical Society will be printing a book of all the information that they have collected I have done extensive research on our family and have all of the records of the six sons of Benjamin and Sarah that fought in the Civil War. The five brothers you mentioned and a sixth brother,Thomas Francis. He fought for the 8th Ky vol. infantry. 1. Hezekiah is buried in an unmarked grave in the National Cemetery in Richmond, Va. 2. Thomas was ill and his unit left him in Louisville, Ky and he is buried at Cave Hill National Cemetery in Louisville, Ky 3. Benjamin Jr. is buried in the Dr. Will May Cemetery in Salyersville, Magoffin Co., Ky 4. William Preston moved his family to Minnesota after the war and he is buried at Eden Valley, Meeker Co., Minnesota 5. John Wesley is buried in the Bluegrass Cemetery in Salyersville, Magoffin Co., Ky 6. Jeptha "Ira" was wounded at Kennesaw Mtn. Ga. and is buried in the National Cemetery, Chattanooga, Tennessee I have visited all of their graves except of Willam Preston.but I do have a picture of it and all the others. Here is the information on Hezekiah's oldest daughter 1. Celia b. 1-16-1852 d-4-26-1906 buried in Magoffin Co., Ky m. James Harvey Williams 4-7-1870 she wasn't mentioned in Hezekiah's pension records because she was over 16 yrs. old and too old to receive the $2 a month that the other children received. We can't find any records to verify who Eliza's parents were but did you know that she married a second time to a Benjamin Montgomery? I also have extensive information on his other children if you are interested. Donna (Hamons) Miller

I am trying to develop a list of the descendants of William Pennington and Abigail Caudill, including those of their daughter Abigail Pennington who married Benjamin Caudill, who are interested in genealogy. My own line is through two of the children of William and Abigail, both of whom lived in or near Webbville, in Lawrence County: Elizabeth "Betsy" Pennington who married James Webb Jr. Alford Pennington who married Mary Holland Jenkins I grew up in and near Webbville. The old William Pennington home was just across the road/creek from my grandmother’s home. If you are a descendant, I would love to compare notes with you! Frankie

The dates I have for William Pennington and Abigail Caudill are slightly different. WILLIAM PENNINGTON, born 3 November1765 in North Carolina ; died 1844 (age 79) in Lawrence County, Kentucky; buried at Webbville, Lawrence, Kentucky; married 09 February 1785 in Wilkes, North Carolina to ABIGAIL “ABBY” CAUDILL, born 27 March 1767 in Wilkes County, North Carolina; died after 1860 (age 93+) in Webbville, Lawrence County, Kentucky; buried in Webbville, Lawrence County, Kentucky These were the dates that were engraved on the new (May 2005) grave marker placed in the Webbville Cemetery, and represented the most accurate dates we could find. Abigail died between 1860 and 1870, but I am not sure of the exact date. Are you a descendant?
I am looking for two individuals, not connected as far as I know #1 Amos F Bayes He was born ca 1854 in KY, married 1878 in Johnson Co., KY to Susan CHANDLER, daughter of Isaac Chandler and Elzira Green. He is not listed with her in 1880, leading me to believe he died. They could have divorced. An Amos F. Bayes is listed in Magoffin Co in 1860 with Sarah Bayes, probably his grandmother. Any leads appreciated. #2 Celia Bayes is believed to have been born in Lawrence County in 1884, as she married in Lawrence County to a Berry PARKER and is listed with him in Lawrence County in 1900. She died between 1903-1906. Again: Any leads appreciated! Thanks! Frankie
