Janet, Thank you for your reply.... I understand that this is some one that painted the pictures. I also sent the question to Sally Whittington with the Lyon Co. Historical Society. Her reply was similar to yours. She said the artists were called Limners and that they traveled up and down the Cumberland River and would get off the boats and paint these pictures for people for pay or sometimes just for room and board. Do you still think the artist may have been Charles Bizet from France? I thank both you and Sally for all of this information. I had never heard of this before and find it very interesting. Landscape Artist Peggy, I read a story quite some time ago about Landscape designers of that time frame. They often traveled long distances to do their work and got little credit for it in the outlying areas but were famous in Washington DC. My best guess is Charles Bizet from France. He worked in the US. In those days they were called Landscape designers later called Landscape Architects.
