    1. Glenn Martin Research Center
    2. Ken & Peggy Gilkey
    3. FYI News from Princeton, Ky. The Glenn E. Martin Genealogy Research Center's Grand Opening has been cancelled for Sunday Sept. 11, 2005 due to a death in Mr. Martin's family....The Grand Opening will be held within the next two-three weeks. The research center will have a "soft" opening Monday morning Sept. 12, 2005 and will observe regular library hours from that time on. We enjoyed a quick tour today and the research center is beautiful. Well designed and very research oriented. As you walk in the door you will first see a portrait of Mr. Glenn Martin done for the Library by Mr. Bill Grandstaff of Princeton. There are three micro-film readers and cabinets filed with micro-film on various Ky. counties also other states. Two computers for online research. Lots and Lots of research books on every county and other states. An obit collection that begins in the late 1800's to present day, this is also indexed. Caldwell County Circuit Court records, some dating as early as 1797 to the mid 1900's. These records were filed and indexed by Mr. Martin and helpers. These records were about to be moved to Frankfort to be warehoused.... when Mr. Martin intervened and with help from Judge Bill Cunningham and they were "warehoused" at the Glenn Martin Research Center. There is also a Native American research room for those researching their Native American Roots. This room is under developement. A break room with refrigerator, microwave and table & chairs for those working long hours on projects. All so a large and beautiful private conference room. It will be a wonderful place to spend the day researching...... 3. FYI--- If anyone wants to order Death or other Certs. from Ky. Vital Statistics, make sure you are ordering from the state and not one of these so called VITALCHEK or VitalRec.com or some such names. These companies are off-shore answering companies and all they do is charge double and order from the Ky. Office of Vital Statics 275 East Main Street Frankfort, Ky. 40621 You can download applications on-line and order yourself and save. It is $6.00 for a certified Death Cert. from Frankfort if you order yourself and $10.50 if you buy through one of these companies. It takes 2-3 weeks no matter which route you go. Death certs from 1911 to 1952 are now available on microfilm, in lots of libraries for 15-25 cents a copy.... but anything from 1953 to present you must order. Just a word to the wise, watch what you click on when you get to the Ky Vital Stats page!!
