I figured something like that. Do you think Frankfort will ever do anything with them, like index them, etc. I did find out that J. W. Clark was court clerk at that time. I wonder why copies or microfilm couldn't have been made and put in Lyon Co. Library before they were sent away. I have debated leaving all my genealogy material, books, etc to the Lyon Co. library but I think I will leave them to Caldwell County, where at least I know they will be where people can use them. I guess I am just being mean but it is aggravating when one has been researching their family for 45 years and something like this happens. Just had to vent. Here is a copy of a hand written item I ran across today in my papers and thought someone might get a kick out of reading it, Tennessee rolling Mills, Nov. 8, 1864 We the judges of an election held at this place for Electors of President and Vice President do certify that the Electors for G. B. McLellan for President and Geo H. Pendleton for Vice President received Ten votes and the Electors for Abraham Lincoln for President and Andrew Johnson for Vice President received none. Given under our hands this the 8th day of November 1864. James Ramey D. W. Hall
This is not an absolute reply, but to add a little mystery to your problem. A few years back a lot of Lyon Co., records took a truck ride to that great warehouse in the Sky. No, I am sorry, it wasn't in the sky, it was Frankfort, Ky. to be "warehoused" cause Eddyville didn't have the room to warehouse them. My guess is, this is more than likely where your lost records are. And your hopes of finding them could take years, if ever !!! Hoping someone on the list can help me. I have a copy of a letter written on January 25, 1895 to John E. Hall of Confederate, Ky. from a J.W.Clark. Johnn E. Hall was the Uncle of a Mary T. Hall who lived in Gulfport, Mississippi. Mary's father, Thomas A. Hall was a brother of John E. When John and Thomas' father, Delaney W. Hall died he left a part of his estate to the children of Thomas Hall, as Thomas was dead. In this letter I have it says "I am in receipt of affidavits and papers showing that Mary T. hall is the only surviving child of Thomas A. Hall, deceased and that she is entitled to receive the money willed to Thomas Hall's children." He goes on and states that the affidavits and papers have been submitted to Judge Watkins for his opinion. Now, after all this rambling, I would like to know the following: Does anyone recognize the name J. W. Clark or Judge Watkins. Where would these affidavits and papers be and how can I find them. The letter was sent from Eddyville Kentucky, so you would figure they would be in County Court Records but I have been unable to find them. Would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you Sue Hall Mills

We also attended the Open House at the Glenn Martin Genealogy Library in Princeton on Sun. afternoon, Oct 23, 2005. It is a very impressive facility for a town the size of Princeton. It also houses the Caldwell Circuit Court records. Open for Business 6 days a week.... The following message was forwarded for anyone who might be interested. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 10:56 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Unmarked Cemetery, Henry Co TN Please post or share this information with your local historical/genealogical societies, or collaborators. I am sending same email to approximately 15 KY counties above state line of Henry Co, TN, and surrounding TN counties. On Thursday, Oct. 27, a permanent marker is being placed at the old unmarked CHUMBLEY cemetery in the Buchanan community, in north Henry County, TN. This unmarked burial ground has been referenced for many years in Henry County genealogy reference books and old survey maps. The site is said to hold 6-8 unindentified graves, which were marked by fieldstones at one time. We have found evidence of several of the fieldstone markers. The marker is a gift from CHUMBELY researcher, Marjorie CHUMBLEY Clark, of Ft. Worth, Texas, in memory of her ancestor, Joseph CHUMBLEY. Joseph owned the land in early 1840s, died in Henry County in 1843, and is likely buried there. A story has been handed down that a JENKINS child (female) was also buried there, so Mrs. Clark has included the name JENKINS on the marker. Mrs. Clark, her sister Josie CHUMBLEY Dale from Texas, and nephew Phil Williamson (my husband) and I will be present for the setting of the stone. Other surnames closely aligned with this family are LAX and LLEWELEN. In 1848, Joseph's son, Byrd CHUMBLEY, married Rebecca LAX in Henry County. Rebecca is related to LAX descendants in Henry County area today, as well as LLEWELLAN lines. We want to let anyone linked to these surnames to know about this marker and site----it is a flat marker and will not be visible from roadside. For more details about the marker, I may be contacted at 256-520-4858 by email at [email protected], or to Mrs. Marjorie Clark, Ft. Worth TX (CHUMBLEY /LAX researcher) at [email protected] I would also like to commend the current landowners, who are an example of stewardship of old cemeteries on private land. Mr. and Mrs. James Dale, Sr., of Henry County (the current landowners), Mr. Dale, and his family before him, kept this small piece of ground from being overgrown, while ensuring that the site has never been cultivated or disturbed in anyway. Without their efforts, a piece of Henry County history and a tangible piece of the CHUMBLEY heritage would have been lost forever. Thank you. This is a very interesting report on The Chinese Experiment and it contains oodles of Southern History as it involves the Chinese workers. It is quite a lengthy report. You may just want to do an EDIT FIND (on this page), for Eddyville and then Hurricane. On September 8, 1900, Galveston lost 6000 folks to a hurricane according to this report. http://www.austin.cc.tx.us/itang/sample_chapters/Chapter_One.html I placed a link on the Lyon County page for this also. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kylyon/index.html
