Also, here's something interesting. It isn't exactly genealogy but these satellite maps are fun and maybe you can use them to check out who knows where. After you pull up a satellite image you can click on the map button and get the nearby roads. I used Princeton, KY to give you a link but after it loads you can type in any address and view via satellite an area. Some provide better zoom in than others. You can also move up, down and sideways and the image will keep giving you the area. http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Princeton,+KY&t=k&om=1 Happy flying, Vicki
From the USGenWeb Project News Prose & Poetry Family Skeleton The Smith family was proud of their family tradition. Their ancestors had come to America on the Mayflower. Their line had included senators, pastors, and Wall Street wizards. They decided to compile a family history, a legacy for the children. They hired a fine author. Only one problem arose: how to handle that great-uncle who was executed in the electric chair. But the author said not to worry, he could handle that section of history tactfully. When the book appeared, the family turned to the section on Uncle George. There, they read, "George Smith occupied a chair of applied electronics at an important government institution, was attached to his position by the strongest of ties. His death came as a real shock." ****************************************8 Ken & Peggy Gilkey Kentucky Vital Records Project volunteers http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kvrp/ ************************************* \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo----McGillekehr ******************************************************************** *****Your Western Ky. I am looking to unravel some names, all in that foggy area between the 1880 and 1900 census. I appreciate any help given. It starts with Lucinda Elizabeth Hill, b. 1867, m. John Donelson (b. ca. 1860) in 1883. a) Did they have a daughter, Eliza Donelson (Dolloson in the 1896 Brandon Chapel photo). b) Did John die/desert? Is there a date? c) Which Browning did Lucinda marry? d) Is Grace Browning, also in the 1896 photo, also Lucinda's daughter? Is that the same Grace buried in Paradise Cemetery? To whom do Naldy and Mahala Browning belong? e) Any idea who is 'Ellis Hart' , seemingly buried next to Grace Browning at Paradise Cemetery? Could it be a half -brother? My husband is descended from Wm. Duff/Elizabeth Donelson marriage...Duff's were in the county from 1855- 1910. Thanks so much for any help. I'm up here in Illinois, now. Cherilyn Trusty

Brenda Joyce Jerome submitted a reprint of Guardian' Bonds 1823-1833 for Caldwell County from her Western Kentucky Journal, Vol. VI, No. 4 (Fall 1999) issue. These are now on line. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kycaldw2/ "NEW" section Thanks so much to Brenda for submitting these and please enjoy, Vicki
Jordan Carroll submitted a file to be shared on the Lyon County genealogy page. It is a biography of John Fitts. He was a Civil War veteran and served with Company G, 48th KY Volunteer Mounted Infantry. He was also instrumental in helping to establish the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. It is a very nice report and well documented with sources. You'll find it at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kylyon/ in the new section. Hope you have time to check it out and thanks so much to Jordan Carroll for sharing this with us. Vicki

I'm looking for a marriage record of William Boyd Short, married to Caroline Wariner or Warren. Their only child, Charles McPherson Short. On Charles death certificate it mentions his parents names.. The closest that I can figure out that William probably got married in the late 60's but no later then 1872, because that's when Charles McPherson Short was born. I have not been able to place William Boyd Short on the 1870 census. So I want to think that he was married after 1870 but no later then 1872. Remember Charles was born in 1872. If you happen to have a marriage record book on hand could you please check the index. for William Boyd Short and Caroline Wariner or Warren. Charlotte
Brenda and everyone who wrote on behalf of the Caldwell Board, I think that all of the messages that were sent in about this situation helped 100%. They did return the board to me and I am very grateful for all the support we received during this awful headache. I am sure messages from all of you helped them to see that a big mistake had been made. I believe all of you helped to send a very loud message and let them see that we did not appreciate our obits being scattered all over the place. I know I thank you! I am sure Ken and Peggy to do. We have several issues we are working on now to correct all of this. It is sad that RW has not restored these obits for us. Ken, Peggy, and I are working on putting them all back. I hope to get the link from the Caldwell page to the board fixed this weekend. I am working with RW on the Lyon County board also as that link is not working from the Lyon County page. There seems to be a problem with my access to that board also but I am in contact with both RW and Ancestry regarding this situation. I am still the administrator for that board and we have no posts from that board that were moved. Ken has put so much into posting these obits for all of us and it has been just wonderful to see all the support for the concern of what happened. Ken, Peggy, and I have all received many messages to let us know that you were there supporting our efforts to get the Caldwell board back. We received help from many other folks also who are not on this list but have much to do with USGenWeb and KYGenWeb and we are grateful for that also. You all helped to get this matter resolved. We do thank all of you so much! I am sorry that you folks are running into such trouble posting those obits. I am aware of the effort and time required to get obits as I have gone to my library and had to sit through hours of searching old film for obits. I wish there was a website that was not so fussy. Apparently MyFamily is forcing some changes since they bought out Ancestry.com and some other sites a couple of months ago. Peggy's address for the message boards was incorrect. Please use the below link to send a message to Attention Elaine in your subject line. Ken has truly spent hours and hours posting these obits and several of these dated back to 1904 and 1925. They are being moved to the various surname boards. They are stealing these obits from the boards they were placed on and moving them to surname boards. As Peggy mentioned you would now have to weed though surname boards to find these. This is a great injustice to Ken and all of you. Please send a message to these folks to let them know this is not right. If we can generate enough mail to them maybe they will listen. mailto:[email protected]

Yes Cindy, your mother in law's family ties into mine. Charles Alexander Hall was a son of John G. Hall who was a son of John Hall and Mary Gray, who was a son of James Hall. We are still working on the question as to whether James Hall was a brother or ? of Martin Hall. They both came to Caldwell Co at the same time, abt. 1810 and their families were closely intwined. I descend from Martin, but your mother in law's ggggrandfather John G. Hall married Nancy Thompson, who was a daughter of Delaney Washington Hall, son of Martin Hall. Hope you don't find this too confusing. I feel sorry for whoever gets my research, that is unless I get it in some order, but I have already made up my mind to give it to Caldwell Co, and have told my family so. They would have to work long and hard on my many files, etc. but I do have quite a good library of genealogy books that anyone would be happy to have. I have a copy of a letter written on January 25, 1895 to John E. Hall of Confederate, Ky. from a J.W.Clark. Johnn E. Hall was the Uncle of a Mary T. Hall who lived in Gulfport, Mississippi. Mary's father, Thomas A. Hall was a brother of John E. When John and Thomas' father, Delaney W. Hall died he left a part of his estate to the children of Thomas Hall, as Thomas was dead. In this letter I have it says "I am in receipt of affidavits and papers showing that Mary T. hall is the only surviving child of Thomas A. Hall, deceased and that she is entitled to receive the money willed to Thomas Hall's children." He goes on and states that the affidavits and papers have been submitted to Judge Watkins for his opinion. Now, after all this rambling, I would like to know the following: Does anyone recognize the name J. W. Clark or Judge Watkins. Where would these affidavits and papers be and how can I find them. The letter was sent from Eddyville Kentucky, so you would figure they would be in County Court Records but I have been unable to find them. Would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you Sue Hall Mills ______________________________Date: Thu, 19 Jan 2006 13:29:31 -0600 (CST) From: "Ken & Peggy Gilkey" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [KYLYON] Hall papers This is not an absolute reply, but to add a little mystery to your problem. A few years back a lot of Lyon Co., records took a truck ride to that great warehouse in the Sky. No, I am sorry, it wasn't in the sky, it was Frankfort, Ky. to be "warehoused" cause Eddyville didn't have the room to warehouse them. My guess is, this is more than likely where your lost records are. And your hopes of finding them could take years, if ever !!! Do you think Frankfort will ever do anything with them, like index them, etc. I did find out that J. W. Clark was court clerk at that time. I wonder why copies or microfilm couldn't have been made and put in Lyon Co. Library before they were sent away. I have debated leaving all my genealogy material, books, etc to the Lyon Co. library but I think I will leave them to Caldwell County, where at least I know they will be where people can use them. I guess I am just being mean but it is aggravating when one has been researching their family for 45 years and something like this happens. Just had to vent. Here is a copy of a hand written item I ran across today in my papers and thought someone might get a kick out of reading it, Tennessee rolling Mills, Nov. 8, 1864 We the judges of an election held at this place for Electors of President and Vice President do certify that the Electors for G. B. McLellan for President and Geo H. Pendleton for Vice President received Ten votes and the Electors for Abraham Lincoln for President and Andrew Johnson for Vice President received none. Given under our hands this the 8th day of November 1864. James Ramey D. W.
