It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion. It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the VETERAN, not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote. It is the VETERAN, who salutes the Flag, It is the veteran, who serves under the Flag. ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM. We can be very proud of our men and women in the service no matter when or where they serve. God Bless them all!!!

Mapleview Cemetery Pictorial of Marion, KY contains a full-name index and over 4,000 photos of every monument through mid-September 2005 in Marion's largest cemetery. This book is arranged by sections and in my opinion the best section is the World War II crosses and bricks. This mauve color hardbound 8 1/2 x 11 book is 645 pages of hi- resolution black & white photos. Each image has its own caption and reference number which provides the reader with a quick find of a search. You can follow the enclosed map that is enclosed in this book and tell where each grave is located. This book was compiled by Bonnie R. Gass and Shirley G. Byford. Greg Stallions resized and laid out the photos and Don Hodge did the proof reading. This book is Marion's largest cemetery. For more information and price contact: Bonnie R. We just got two new Crittenden Co., Ky. Books...The 1850 Census and the Vol. V Cemetery Book. These books are packed full of additional information. They have surpassed any of the other books they have done. If you research Crittenden Co., then these would be two great books to have. They have lots of obits, marriage records and family information in them. I have put the order blank on the Crittenden Co., Ky. books page if any one is interested. Hi, Does anyone know what part of Caldwell County that became Trigg County? I have the Thetfords in Christian County, then Caldwell County and then Trigg. I thought maybe they did not move just the county lines. Cathy Fleming
>Hi, > >Does anyone know what part of Caldwell County that became Trigg >County? I have the Thetfords in Christian County, then Caldwell >County and then Trigg. I thought maybe they did not move just the >county lines. > >Cathy Fleming > A portion of the Trigg-Caldwell line was shifted slightly to the north in the mid-late 1820s with the result that several Caldwell county families suddenly found themselves residents of Trigg. Among them were Olivers and Wynn/Winns. The shifted line started about where the "Blackhawk" community is located and ran roughly west to the western edge of the county. Of course Trigg had been created from Christian and Caldwell in 1820. The shift is apparent in the Caldwell and Trigg Tax records of the 1820s and on good maps. Pat -- Pat Oliver [email protected]
Christian Co., was formed in 1797 Caldwell in 1809 Trigg was formed in 1820 from Caldwell & Christian. The county line South of Lamasco along the Hurricane Creek settlements was moved back & forth a couple of times and finally settled abt 1830?. Dont have my records in front of me cant be sure of the date the present boundary was settled on. Ken G. Hello list- I am still searching for a death or burial place of Rachel A. Hamby Hart, b. 1848. Her husband was Antoine Hart, and the family intermarried w/ Duffs, Whalens, and Nickells. Last date I've seen on Rachel was 1880 in Ladies Springs , Lyon Co. census. I believe that Antoine d. 1891, buried in Forrester Cemetery, Old Salem. Did not find her in the 1900 census in 3 states (some of her kids moved). Did Rachel remarry? Help with other leads is appreciated, also. Cherilyn
Fwd From another List -------------------------------- VITAL STATISTICS To Be Collected in Accordance with New Law. ---------- Dec. 2, 1910 "Bowling Green, Ky.- Active preparations are being made here for the operation of the Bureau of Vital Statistics law, which goes in effect Jan. 1, 1911. This law provides for the reporting and recording of all births and deaths and the collection of morbidity statistics. It is a department of the State Board of Health and is one far-reaching in its importance to the welfare and lives of the people of Kentucky. "Kentucky's Bureau will be a combination of the best features of similar bureaus in other states with some suggestions of the Census Department added. "Under this law, before a body is buried, the undertaker must procure a burial or removal permit, which shall be issued only by the Local Registrar, who will be placed at convenient localities. This permit can be secured only when a certificate of death has been filed out by the physician, and in the event the person has died of an infectious or communicable disease, smallpox, cholera, diphtheria, scarlet fever, erysipelas, before a burial permit is issued the body must be so prepared for burial that there is no danger of a spread of the disease in the community. This not only safeguards the public, but by means of these reports of deaths coming in from all over the state, properly tabulated and classified, the State Board of Health is able to learn the infected districts and spots that need cleaning up. Through its sanitary inspectors and engineer, the cause of such prevalence of disease is learned and proper regulations enforced as will stop this needless slaughter of the citizens of the Commonwealth. "The entire force of the bureau and State Board of health is engaged in appointing suitable men at distances of a few miles, over the entire state. These are the Local Registrars, who not only will report births and deaths, but arrangements are being perfected so that they will report the cases of infections and dangerous diseases that occur in their district and which do not necessarily die. When this system is in operation Kentucky will be on an equal footing for procuring these vital facts as the state of Pennsylvania, which spends the sum of $3,000,000,000 [sic] each year for health work. "The Voting Precinct is being used as the unit for the territory each Local Registrar will cover in his reports. When two or more units can be combined to advantage, resulting in no inconvenience to the people, this arrangement is made. Already hundreds of acceptances have been received from men all over the state and include bankers, lawyers, teachers, farmers, clerks [,] and in nearly all instances, people who are interested in promoting public health work. It is mainly the work of sending the proper blanks and instructions that will occupy the time till the operation of the law on January 1, 1911".

(Taken From another mail list) Hi Listers, The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has added 1.9 million burial listings to its cemeteries database. These are for military veterans buried in mostly private cemeteries, who have VA grave markers. The database already included more than 3 million graves in national cemeteries, bringing the total in the database to about 5 million listings. VA has also added maps to show many of the grave locations for those buried in VA national cemeteries, in state veterans cemeteries, and Arlington National Cemetery.
