    1. Re: PORTER FAMILY LINE
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Porter, Read/Reid, Ewing, Carson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBB.2ACI/2894.3.1 Message Board Post: While I make no claim of accuracy, "Logan Co [KY] Marriages" shows a Reason/Rezin/ Porter married in Logan Co KY in 1804. The wife is not named and the marriage is not recorded in the county marriage book. I have 7 children including a Rezin/Reason Shipley Porter who was listed in the 1860 Logan Co census and murdered there in 1867. The others were James, William, Joseph Robert, Mary and Ann. I do not know much anything about Reason Porter. However - there was a Reason/Rezin Porter in Prince Edward Co VA prior to 1800. He is listed as an educator in the county history and was referred to in a deed involving some of John Porter's land. From the hip I recall that John Porter transferred land on Vaughn Creek to a son indicating the property line ran along that of Rezin Porter. This has always intrigued as it indicates other Porters in [very] close proximity to John Porter in PECoVA. The assumption that John & Mary Porter had only 8 children arises from the John M Porter 1872 memo and the Dobbins Bible. The same number but with some different names is found in the History of Greene County [GA]. As noted in posts above, several of us believe that the John and Hugh Porter lines share common ancestors, but without proof. The split along religious and moral beliefs by 1860 made the family relationships more estranged. I suspect that the 1804 Reaso/Rezin Porter is related to one or both of the PECoVA lines then in Logan Co KY, but which?
