    1. Re: logan country and warren country
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BURK, MADDEN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBB.2ACI/3068.3 Message Board Post: Peggie.......Sure and you must be Irish! Just kidding. The closest thing I can find for your John is the same family all ready posted by another lister. I find them in 1870 Warren Co., Bowling Green and living at a hotel where there are many other Irish lodgers. But they were enumerated as: John BURK 37 section boss/RR b. IRE Catharine 37 " John T.W. 11 attending school KY May Ann 5 (prob. Mary Ann) " Catharine 1 " I could find no one enumerated as John D. in any county 1860, 1870 or 1880. John, the father, was shown to be a U.S. citizen. In 1860 Logan Co. there is a John BURK, age 25, b. IRE living in House #428 with two other young Irishmen. All were "day laborers". They were next door to Patrick(41) and Bridget(40) MADDEN, also b. IRE. There were many other Irish in the immediate neighborhood. This John could well be the same John that turned up in Warren Co. 1870. He certainly looks the same. I'm sorry that little John's middle initial isn't a "D" though. My experience is that many people came to be called by names other than their birth names. You learn to be a little flexible after a while.
