This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HARRIS KNIGHT MALLORY MCALISTER MCALLISTER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QBB.2ACI/3091 Message Board Post: I am seeking Harris researchers with Louisa Co. VA and Logan/Simpson Co. KY interests to exchange new information. My earliest known Harris ancestor was Nathan Harris b. 1756 Louisa Co. VA Colony who married bef. 25 Oct 1782 Sarah Knight. Among there children were Catherine Harris who married William Mallory, Jr. and George Harris who married Rachel Winfred McAlister. In about 1812, George Harris migrated with his family from Louisa Co. VA to settle in a part of Logan Co. KY near Pilot Knob that is now Simpson Co. A few weeks ago, one of his Harris descendants generously donated a Y-DNA sample for testing by FTDNA. His kit is identified as #47884. The FTDNA lab has posted twelve (12) markers (called Alleles) for Kit #47884. The results are as follows: Locus/DYS# =Alleles 1/393=13 2/390=23 3/19*=14 4/391=10 5/385a=14 6/385b=14 7/426=11 8/388=14 9/439=12 10/389-1=12 11/392=11 12/389-2=28 *Also known as DYS 394 This particular sequence is only found in male Harris DNA identified as "Group 2" by the Harris researcher, Glenn Gohr. For more about this group, click this link: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gohrpage/2harrisdna.html Note that out of over 150 Harris Y-DNA samples in the FTDNA database, there are only three (3) others that match this particular sequence. Since two (2) of those are descendants of Benjamin Harris b. 1775 Virginia Colony, it's likely my earliest known Harris ancestor, Nathan Harris b. 1756 Louisa Co. VA Colony was related to him. This is not a lot of information to work from, but it's more than was known before. The knowledge that Nathan Harris' line does NOT belong to any of the other 20+ Harris lines in the database is significant. From now on, my cousins and I can eliminate the other known Harris lines from our Colonial Virginia and West Kentucky research. More information about this line is available upon request. Questions and corrections are appreciated. Gary Violette Clarksville, TN
