    1. Re: [KYLOGAN] Thomas Thompson
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBB.2ACI/2892.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Carrie, I was just curious....what evidence is there that "your" Thomas Thompson was the son of John Thompson and Hannah Waldrum of Botetourt? Some records imply that "your" Thomas was a descendant of Reverend John Thom(p)son who came to Amelia Co., VA (today Prince Edward Co., VA) from PA, and that "your" Thomas was also out of Amelia Co., VA. Of course, researchers could be confusing two different Thomas Thompsons. I am somewhat familiar with the Thomas Thompson in Botetourt, but my records imply that he died in VA (see below). I have studied the various Thompson families that came through VA in the 1600s-early 1800s, and as you probably know, they present a real challenge. Per my research, I believe that it is at least possible that the John Thompson who married Hannah Waldrum COULD have been "blood related" to Reverend Thom(p)son (but certianly no proof of that). I wish more living Thompson male descendants from the various "VA Thompson families" would come forward and participate in the Thom(p)son DNA testing project. The Reverend John Thom(p)son lived in Amelia/Prince Edward (before moving to, and dying in, NC), but he frequently preached in the Augusta County/Botetourt/Rockbridge area, as I understand it (he was associated with Tinkling Spring Church in that area). One of the Reverend's daughters married a John Finley, and a John Finley was a witness or executor of the 1770s Augusta Co., VA will of a William Thompson who lived in the Beverly Manor section of the county (this will was not probated until 1781, as recall). There are also some other clues that suggest that the Reverend Thom(p)son and this William Thompson COULD have been "blood related." There was also a Mathew Thompson in Augusta Co., VA (left a will there in 1753, and he was married to a Martha Unknown). Several of his grandchildren appear to have been baptized at Tinkling Spring Church. It APPEARS that the James Thompson who died in Augusta Co., VA in 1773 was one of Mathew's sons (though he was the only son not mentioned in Mathew's will...but James was already wealthy and had a plantation, it apears, so that may be why he was not included in the will). That James Thompson was married to a Mary (Mary Towes, per some records), and they had several children, per the will in 1773. I suspect that the John Thompson who married Hannah Waldrum COULD have been the son of the above James Thompson named John (largely by the "process of elimination"). There were several Thompson/Davidson "connections" in VA, and I note that a James Davi(d)son and a John Davi(d)son were mentioned in the records for the will of "your" Thomas Thompson in Logan Co., KY in 1810. I am not sure who those particular Davi(d)sons in Logan were, but I want to look into that in the future. A William and Martha (Baker) Davidson moved from Buckingham/Prince Edward Co., VA to Botetourt around 1774. Martha was a granddaughter of Reverend John Thom(p)son. Their land in Botetourt became part of Rockbridge Co., VA in 1778, and William and Martha sold their home there to a John Thompson in 1781. That John Thompson then willed that home to a Thomas Thompson in the late 1780s-early 1790s, as I recall. Thomas Thompson then WILLED the home to a Dorothy Thompson, and she married Samuel Kinnerly. Based on the above will, I assume the Thomas Thompson of Botetourt died before 1800 in Rockbridge Co., VA (but, of course, there could have been more than one Thomas Thompson from that area). The home was eventually sold to Reverend Andrew Baker Davidson (in the early 1800s), and he was a son of William and Martha (Baker) Davidson. Comments on any of the above? I have a "ton" of additional info on the "Amelia/Prince Edward Thompsons" as well as the "Augusta/Botetourt/Rockbridge Thompsons."
