Surnames: KNIGHT-SIMMONS-BAUGH-CHRISTMAS-LUCE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBB.2ACI/3068.5 Message Board Post: Family History/Records Research Kentucky did not keep comprehensive, official birth and death records until 1911, but did maintain lists of births, deaths, and marriages, filed by county, from 1852-1862, 1874-1879, 1891-1910 in the State Auditor's Office, which are available at KDLA. Kentucky passed a comprehensive vital statistics law in 1911 to issue official certificates of birth and death. The birth records after 1911 are available from the KY Office of Vital Statistics. Death certificates from 1911-1954 are available at KDLA. Death certificates issued after 1954 are available from the KY Office of Vital Statistics. Marriage records are created by County Clerks in Kentucky's 120 counties. Many of these marriage records are available at KDLA, or at the offices of individual county clerks. The State Auditor also maintained lists of marriages, filed by county, from 1852-1910, and the KY Office of Vital Statistics began recording marriages in 1958. http://www.kdla.ky.gov/research.htm I hope this will help you in your research for your families. The closest thing I can find for your John is the same family all ready posted by another lister. I find them in 1870 Warren Co., Bowling Green and living at a hotel where there are many other Irish lodgers. But they were enumerated as: John BURK 37 section boss/RR b. IRE Catharine 37 " John T.W. 11 attending school KY May Ann 5 (prob. Mary Ann) " Catharine 1 " I could find no one enumerated as John D. in any county 1860, 1870 or 1880. John, the father, was shown to be a U.S. citizen. In 1860 Logan Co. there is a John BURK, age 25, b. IRE living in House #428 with two other young Irishmen. All were "day laborers". They were next door to Patrick(41) and Bridget(40) MADDEN, also b. IRE. There were many other Irish in the immediate neighborhood. This John could well be the same John that turned up in Warren Co. 1870. He certainly looks the same. I'm sorry that little John's middle initial isn't a "D" though. My experience is that many people came to be called by names other than their birth names. You learn to be a little flexible after a while.

Kentucky County, was admitted to the Union in 1792, as a separate state as the State of Kentucky. Many of folks in my line were born and died in Lincoln, Warren or Logan County Kentucky. Lincoln County came out of the Kentucky County portion in 1780. In 1792, Logan County came out of the Lincoln County portion and in 1796, Warren County came out of the Logan County portion. So entries prior to 1792 that stated a family member was born in Virginia and or Kentucky and or various Kentucky counties, may have occurred in the same farm/property/city and it was only the state and county lines that moved. Talk about re-districting!!!!!

    1. GRAHAM / WALKER families
    2. I'm looking for information about the James GRAHAM family who lived in Ky. during the 1820s and 1830s. James and Sarah GRAHAM had six children in Ky. during that time. Apparently, the GRAHAM and WALKER families then went to Tn. and Al., where the GRAHAM daughter, Mary, and the WALKER son, Simeon, married. Can anyone give me any info on either of these families? Thanks very much! Velma
