I'm from the Madole and Ross line and so many family members state that Sarah Ross was all or part American Indian. Have you found out anything confirming that she was Indian. I would like to share pictures. I have one of Sarah with her family before she died. The only one I believe that was not in the picture was Mary Caroline Madole, who married William Kidwell. Mary had already died before the picture was taken. Thanks Donna dkhisel@gmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Would anyone know of any other children of William McIntosh and Nancy (possibly Benton) in Logan Co., Ky where William died ca 1800-1801 other than Cornelius who married Sally Montgomery 25 April 1805 ? Cornelius is the only child I see listed. Surely there must have been other children of William and Nancy. Marianne Dillow Illinois

I found some extra information on the William McIntosh record from a good friend that knows about the territories before Illinois became a state in 1818. This information is important as to the exact location of William McIntosh when the deposition was wanted in Robertson Co. Tn records. By the time this record was filed Randolph County had left the Indiana Territory and was part of Illinois Territory and Randolph covered all of southern Illinois. So, William McIntosh was in southern Illinois when the deposition was wanted in Robertson County, Tennessee. And so is Benjamin McIntosh who died in Johnson County, IL in 1815. They were the first two of the McIntosh bunch to come to southern Illinois. In 1810 Charles, Thomas and John McIntosh had joined them. John is the son of Charles McIntosh of Robertson Co., Tn. Illinois Territory was established March 1, 1809 so the deposition was actually sent to William McIntosh in the wrong location. He was not in Indiana Territory at that time but it was part of Indiana prior to that time but apparently those in Robertson Co., Tn. did not know of the split of the two territories. The record: 5 April 1809 William Parks vs Henry Johnson ordered that deft have deposition of John Karr in Ohio County, Ky and William McIntosh in Randolph County, in the Indiana Territory by giving 20 days notice from Records of Robertson County, Tennessee County Court Records Vol 2 1808-1811. I wonder now if William ever received the deposition. Illinois Territory was formed a little over a month before the deposition was dated 5 April 1809 in Robertson Co., Tn records. I have posted quite a lot on William McIntosh who was in 1809 in Randolph Territory and later was part of Illinois when it became a state in 1818. He ended up in Wetaug and Alexander County, IL. In the 1820 and 1830 Alexander County, Illinois census William McIntosh has William Smith living on one side of him. On the other side was ALWAYS a.... JAMES MURPHY and a Nicholas Murphy in one census. I know Nimrod McIntosh is not my grandfather. I know Nimrod married Nancy Murphy and there was a Gabriel Murphy mentioned. My question is: Would anyone know who this James Murphy with Nicholas is ? In the 1820 Alexander County, Illinois census James Murphy is in the age range of 40-50 years old and wife in that time frame also. That would give James Murphy a birthdate between 1780-1790. Who is this fellow ?? Any help on James Murphy would greatly be appreciated. I know when Benjamin McIntosh died in 1815 in Johnson County, Illinois a deposition from Nimrod Mcintosh in Robertson Co., Tn was wanted and mentioned Stephen Boren as absent. Any help on this James Murphy and who he is and his lineage would greatly be appreciated. Marianne Dillow Illinoisa
Hi Sherron, I have Solomon Parks McIntosh as the son of Cornelius McIntosh that married Sally Montgomery and lived in Logan County, Ky. Cornelius is the son of William McIntosh whose will is dated 16 Nov 1798 in Logan Co., Ky. His wife was Nancy. Some say her name night have been Benton. This group appears to go back to Caswell Co., NC. The McIntosh's were there in the 1780's before migrating to Robertson Co., TN and Logan Co. Ky. William lived on the Big Whipporwill in Logan County with the Boren and Smith families living near them. William's estate was not settled until 1814. I don't know anything about who Solomon Parks McIntosh married. I think he was born 1816. But his siblings are: i. Malindy Talbert McIntosh ii. John Anglin Mcintosh 'iii. Nancy Ann McIntosh iv. William Carrell McIntosh. Malindy Talbert McIntosh , John Anglin McIntosh all came to Union Co., IL. I am not sure who they married. Before Caswell Co., Nc this group of McIntosh's were in Culpeper Co., Va and probably Orange Co., Va. Hope this helps you. In my previous postings I left this info out. I live in Illinois and was born here. Franklin County, Illinois is about 50 miles north of Union County, Illinois... all in southern Illinois. In Franklin County, Illinois , Benjamin and Elijah McIntosh sold land to Anderson McIntosh of Robertson County, Tennessee, a tract of land where Charles McIntosh lived in Robertson Co., TN .. In my previous postings on my McIntosh lineage I stated my 3rd great grandparents are George Washington McIntosh born 3 July 1813 in land that would be Illinois when it became a state in 1818. Before that it was Randolph Terrirtory. He died 26 Mar 1875 in Pulaski Co., IL. He is buried in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery at Wetaug, IL., Pulaski Co., IL. He married Elizabeth Hoffner 10 June 1838 in Union County, IL. She is the daughter of John Hoffner and Catherine Powles. These two counties are adjoining each other. There is also a Washington Lafeyette McIntosh in Uniion Co., IL. He is not the same man as my 3rd great grandfather but they are kin. This one is the son of John McIntosh that died in Union Co., IL. 6 Oct 1831 that married Mary Miller. John McIntosh is the son of Charles McIntosh of Robetson Co., Tn. Union Co. I also have the same info on Hosea Boren, John Beggs and Millington Smith in the info in Union Co., IL. who are connected to the William McIntosh family in Logan Co., Ky. Millington Smith mentions Barnabas Smith in his will. The Admin of Millington Smith is William B. Smith of Johnson Co., IL. Millington Smith's will said he died 6 June 1835 in Union Co., IL. Hosea Boren 's will was in 1825 in Union Co., IL. with Barnabas Smith, Aaron Mcintosh and Robert Beggs as securities. John Beggs will in Union Co., IL is dated 14 Sept 1821. At his sale some are : William Barton, clerk; Hosea Boren, Bazel Boren, Alexander Beggs, Archabel Beggs (Adm) . William Mcintosh and Bemjamon McIntosh were in Knox County , Indiana Territory as early as 1807 and in 1809 William Parks vs Henry Johnson wanted a deposition in Robertson Co., Tn. William McIntosh was in Randolph County, Indiana which became Randolph Territory and then southern Illinois . Benjamin and William McIntosh were the first two of this McIntosh clan to come to Illinois from the Virginia, Caswell. Co., NC, Robertson Co., TN and Logan Co., KY Mcintosh's. Any help in proving the early McIntosh's would be appreciated. As far as my research it appears that Alexander McIntosh whose will is 1799 in Robertson Co., TN might be the earliest one of this clan but I could be wrong on that one part. I have miscellaneous records to go with my first postings in attempting to determine who the parents of William McIntosh born 1770-1780 to 1830 Alexander Co., IL census is. My first posting includes: My 3rd great grandparents are George Washington McIntosh that went mainly by Washington McIntosh and G.W. McIntosh He was born 3 July 1813 in Illinois . He died 26 Mar 1875 in Pulaski Co., IL. He married Elizabeth Hoffner. I am still researching who his parents are but he must descend from the McIntosh's that were in Culpeper Co., Va .... moved to Caswell Co., NC.. on to Robertson Co., Tn and Logan Co., Ky on to southern Illinois. He is not the Washington Lafeyettte McIntosh son of John McIntosh from Robertson Co., TN that married Mary Miller that came to Union Co., IL. . I am interested in finding who this William McIntosh's parents were in the following records. I believe he could be my Washington McIntosh's father. In 1807 William and Benjamin McIntosh were in Knox County, Indiana Territory. 5 April 1809 William Parks vs Henry Johnson ordered that deft have deposition of john Kerr in Ohio Co., Ky. and William McIntosh in Randolph county in Indiana. Records of Robertson Co., TN. Court Minutes Vol 2 1808-1811...... also in Tennessee Tidbits 1778-1914 Vol 2 mentions William McIntosh was a resident of Randolph County in Indiana Territory 5 April 1809 when his deposition was to be taken for the defendant in the case of Wm. Parks vs Henry Johnson (Robertson Co., Tn.County Court Records Vol 2 p. 122.) Also mentoned in Tenn. Tidbits is Alexr. Mcintosh died before 15 April 1799, will proven by Bazel Boren. No executor but Elizabeth McIntosh named with John McIntosh as security. I have copies of the wills of this Alexander McIntosh and Charles McIntosh of Robertson Co., TN but do not have much info on Alexander as to children, locations, time periods, etc 1810 Illinois census has William, Benjamin, Thomas, John and Charles McIntosh living near Fort Wilkensonville near GrandChain near the meeting of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. . On 14 Nov 1811 a William Mantesh (McIntosh) married Baphala Smith in Randolph Territory which became a county of Illinois in 1812. My Washington McIntosh was then born 3 July 1813 in Illinois. William settled at Wetaug , Illinois in 1816 near where Washington lived in later years. Benjamin McIntosh died in Johnson Co., IL. in 1815. He left wife Frances, children: Betsy, Unity, Ceny, Stacy, Benjamin, Joshua and Charles. his will named William Smith, John Burchfield and John Latham. This county was neighboring the others mentioned in IL as they were formed from one another. _-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MISCELLANEOUS RECORDS: All William McIntosh records in my possession: 1. The Robertson Co., TN and Logan Co., Ky McIntosh's were the ones who came to the southern Illinois counties of Union, Alexander, Johnson and Pulaski counties and who were part of William McIntosh and Benjamin McIntosh mentioned above in 1807 and 1809 records mentioned above that were the first two that came to Illinois until the 1810 census which included William, Benjamin, Thomas, John, and Charles McIntosh. Also a Union Co., IL record of 25 July 1836 for Thomas McIntosh of Union Co., IL sold to Richard W.. Mantle his interests in the estate of his father John McIntosh decd of Robertson Co., Tn. Hi Robin, Nimrod is the main one I know but he isn't my William McIntosh's father but is kin to him someway. Some in southern Illinois go to Charles McIntosh in Robertson Co.,Tn and John Mcintosh there also and the ones including the Smith and Boren families were both in Logan, Co., Ky and Union Co., IL. I know the Haggards married into the McIntoshes but they appear to be around Nimrod a lot. They were in Robertson County TN & Clark County KY. This family was also next door in the Todd/Christian County area which was also part of early Logan County. Some of these families are buried in Todd/Christian County area & in Ballard County Ky just a few counties to the West. Terry and I are supposed to go to the cemetery in Robertson County Tn where the Mcintosh family is buried. Nimrod Mcintosh & Nancey Murphy/Murphey had a daughter Lucinda who married William Holman (Holeman) Haggard. Thier son James W. Haggard married Rebecca Gibson, daughter of Smith Gibson & Rebecca Haggard. There are other multiple marriages with the Gibson, Haggard and Trevathan families so you will probably run into all of them. The Mcintosh's are some of my great great's through this line. For some extra records to go with what I posted before on the McIntoshes. In 1807 William and Benjamin McIntosh were in Knox County, Indiana. Then 5 April 1809 William Parks vs Henry Johnson ordered that deft have deposition of John Kerr in Ohio County, Ky. and William McIntosh in Randolph County, in Indiana. Records of Robertson County, TN. Court Minutes Vol 2 1808-1811. This William is the one I am thinking might be my Washington McIntosh's father 1813-1875 in Pulaski County, Illinois, my 3rd great grandfather. It appears Henry Johnson was in several reords with the McIntoshes. 18 Jan 1797 Thomas Johnson sold Nimrod Mcintosh 60 acres on the waters of Upper Trace creek. . 9 Apr 1791 deed from Bazel Boren to Thomas Johnson 100 acres (Tn. Co. Early Deeds). 27 Mar 1795 -- 1 Jul 1794 deed from Thomas Johnson and Stephen Boren 54 acres on Sulphur Fork of Red River Deed Book A, p. 355 (Tn. Co. Early Deeds). 19 Mar 1791 Thomas Johnson Co. of the US to Charles Mcintosh 137 acres on Sulphur Foek of Red River. Adjoins Wm. Barnes, Karrs, Nichols, Borens FHL Film # 422 470 Robertson Co.,Tn. Deeds. 25 July 1836 Thomas McIntosh of Union Co., Illinois sold Richard Mantle his interests in the remaining part of his estate of his father John Mcintosh decd of Robertson Co., Tn. Deed Book Y p. 553. Marianne Dillow Illinois
