    1. [KYLOGAN] Elijah, Daniel, Vincent Cushenberry, Sons of Moses Cushenberry, DNA Testing offer
    2. Elijah, Daniel and Vincent Cushenberry are sons of Moses Cushenberry who died in Bourbon County, Ky in 1792. By 1810 Elijah and Daniel (my next grandfather) came to Warren and then Allen County with their brother Vincent going on to Logan County, Ky. I descend from Daniel's son James Cushenberry who married Mary "Polly" Pulliam daughter of John Francis Pulliam and Ann Parks who came to the area from Culpeper Co., Va. The earliest record we can find on Moses Cushenberry is 1783. After 28 years of research we believe Moses descends from the Quisenberry family of Virginia but lack a record to prove it. Moses must have a birth date of 1720-1740 in Va since he died in Bourbon Co., Ky in 1792. We have run out of records to prove Moses parentage. I have tested my own mtDNA and also my Mother's maiden name and my Father's line at Family Tree DNA based in Houston when we ran out of records and were able to match with others who tested their DNA and proved our lines. I know there are still male Cushenberry descendants in Allen County and their descendants although I don't know them personally. To prove Moses Cushenberry's lineage I would be willing to pay... MYSELF.... for a 37 marker test for a living Cushenberry male that can prove his descent from Moses at Family Tree DNA. There are five Quisenberry men who have tested their DNA there as of now. If a male descendant would match from Moses Cushenberry on his DNA and matched with a tester of the Va Quisenberry family we would at last know the group Moses descnds from. If there is not a match to the Va Quisenberry's we would know to do research for his parents elsewhere but as of now everything points to the Quisenberry family of Virginia whose descendants also came to Warren county in 1808. DNA testing is very simple. All it takes is a swab from the inside of the cheek in the mouth and send it to the company and they give you the results and who you match with. There is no blood involved. The male tester has confidentiality and the results cannot be given out to other people so no one is compromised. If you have a living male Cushenberry from Elijah, Daniel or Vincent Cushenberry, sons of Moses, I would be willing to pay for the testing MYSELF to finally prove our lineage one way or the other as we are running out of genealogy records. You can email me directly and we can work it out if you would like to take me up on my offer to pay for the DNA testing. It does take a male to test. The testing is limited as there is a special sale of testing as of this date. I hope someone will take me up on my offer. :) Thank you, Marianne Dillow Illinois marlowest155@verizon.net

    1. [KYLOGAN] The Life of Moses Cushenberry As Is Known Now
    2. I am still working on my grandfather Moses Cushenberry that died in 1792 in Bourbon County. He was from Virginia but I don't know where. I found a new record on him today. I am trying to put the land records together. His first record I can find is 1783 where he signed the petition for the formation of a new state from Virginia. Then in 1786 he signs the Petition for a new town called Washington in the Limestone Settlement. His sons Elijah and Vincent sign it as well as Miles Conway and Simon Kenton. In 1787 the second petition to Virginia from the settlers of Limestone was signed by Moses and Daniel Boone, Jacob Boone, Miles Conway and Simon Kenton. About 1787 Moses purchased 16 1/2 acres in the town of Washington , then in Bourbon county (now Mason County). He bought it from Simon Kenton. ' to have and to hold natural lives of Moses and his wife Ann (maiden name unknown.) 10 Oct 1787 Bourbon County , Ky. Court Records Deed Book A, p. 139. In Dec 1789 Moses purchased 150 acres from Simon Kenton on South Fork Licking Creek, Bourbon County. Witnessed by Josiah Dixon, and sons Elijah and Vincent Cushenberry. The record I found today is another petition 27 Oct 1790 from Bourbon County for Inspection for tobacco at the town of Hopewell and there were many signatures and among them were James Kenny, Moses Chrisenberry, Elijah Cusenbary, ANSON CUSENBARY (I don't know who ANSON is ), William Cusenbary, A. Eastin, John Cousenberry, Ovid Boone, and William Crisinberry. In the Fayette County 1787 Tax List it names Rawleigh Chinn and Smith Darnell with Moses Coosenberry with John Tandy on down from him.. In 1790 Moses and Ann were "dism'd" from Bryan's Station Church Minutes 1798-1898-, p. 20 They then were listed as members at Coopers' Run Baptist Church. Moses son John Cushenberry married Rebecca Dowden and she is a sister to Martha Dowden who married Simon Kenton making John Cushenberry and Simon Kenton brother-in-laws. Then in 1792 Moses died leaving no will and the court oversaw the estate in May of that year. It was recorded in June 1792. Moses estate was granted to his wife Anne Quesenberry who came to court and qualified with Nicholas Lindsay (her son-in-law) and William Qusenberry (her son), her securities and gave bond. There was a problem with the estate as a suit was advertised in the Kentucky Gazette 15 Sep 1800 in Bourbon County, Ky. James Kenny filed a complaint against John, William, Elijah, Vincent and Daniel Cushenberry( an infant under the age of 21 years) , and Lindsay and Mary his wife, Rachel Cushenberry (under the age of 21 years) , Widow (Ann) of said Moses deceased. Miles W. Conway and Simon Kenton were defendants. I do not know why this action was taken or the reason for it except Moses wife Ann was deceased at this time and two children were under 21 years of age.. The article was incorrect as Betsy Cushenberry married Zachariah Ross and Anna married Vachel Lindsay. Moses wife Ann Cushingbery, Daniel (my next grandfather), Elijah and Vincent was last in the 1800 Fayette County Census. . About 1810 the sons moved to Warren County and Allen formed from it with Vincent going on to a adjoining county of Logan except William Cushenberry who had bought land from Lewis Craig in Bourbon County on the waters of David's Fork of Elkhorn, being part of a tract of land of 1,000 acres granted to John Craig, Sr on a treasury warrant, bounded by Hormbuck's plantation and the heirs of William Robinson, dec;d. This was dated 8 Sep 1802. . Through the years Moses and his family were close both in Fayette and then to Warren County, Ky with the Rev. James Quisenberry and his bother John A. Quisenberry with John A. moving to Warren County, Ky in 1808. In saying all of this I am trying to learn the geography and history as I know Bourbon was formed from Fayette and Mason was formed from Bourbon. The first record of Moses is 1783 and Kentucky County, Virginia was split in 1780 to Lincoln, Jefferson, and Fayette counties. So, in trying to find where Moses came from in Virginia it is hard to find another record because of the division and formation of counties and Virginia to the State of Kentucky in 1792. Any suggestions where to look for anymore records on Moses would be appreciated. I might make mention the different spellings of the surname makes it hard to find records I hope this record on Moses Cushenberry's life will be of value after myself as it will now be in the Archives for future researchers if I can't come to a conclusion myself of his parentage which I believe points to the Quisenberry family of Virginia about the generation of Aaron Quisenberry, Sr that married Joyce Gayle Dudley or before. Moses would have been born ca 1720-1740 with a death date of 1792. This is my last posting unless a new record can be found on Moses. Marianne Dillow Illinois

I really appreciate your help and any information you might have or find. I had found something reported by Hilland Phillips that listed Jacob(Jack/Jake)Phillips alt 1860 born in Pike Co. KY married to Nancy Jane Scott Phillips as the father of Grover Cleveland Phillips b 1885 d8-9-1945. My father has told me that my papaw thought our line came out of NC. Papaw, Med Phillips, was related to RC Phillips, and his sister was Nancy Michaels Phillips who married Charles and lived in Huntington, WV. Med Phillips b 2-2-1911 had some cousins named Hiram, Johhny, and Ceicil. Dad has also said that we have Scotts, McCoys, and Blankenships in our line too. I will be traveling to Mingo Co. this week and plan to visit the Strygtown family graves and those burried at the McCoy Cemetery which is where Grover Cleveland is burried. As I said in my previous post, I am new to all of this so thank you for being patient with me as I'm still learning. I would appreciate any information you might have on my family line from Stryngtown, Ky/Mingo Co. WV area. My grandfather was Med Phillips who was married to Tressie Lovell. He died in 1986. His father was Grover Cleveland Phillips b1888 or 1885 buried in Strygtown, Ky. He(Grover C.)was married to Mattie Roberts b11-15-1885 and died Jan 1971. Grover's father was Jake or Jacob Phillips alt 1860 in Pike Co. Ky married to Nancy Jane Scott Phillips. 1. [KYLOGAN] Moses Cushenberry, Martha Dowden and Simon Kenton in Ky.
    2. Well, it looks like John Cushenberry (son of Moses Cushenberry, my grandfather), and Simon Kenton were brother-in-laws. I never knew that before. , Martha Dowden and Simon Kenton 16 May 1787 Rebecca Dowden and John Cushonbery 15 Dec 1791... Moses Cushenberry's son. Bourbon County, Kentucky Marriage Records, 1786-1800 Elizabeth Cushenberry and Zachariah Ross, 10 Jul 1795 ..... Moses Cushenberry's daughter. Simon Kenton was born at the headwaters of Mill Run in the Bull Run Mountains, in what is now Fauquier County, Virginia (birthplace was part of Prince William County at time of his birth prior to formation of Fauquier in 1759) to Mark Kenton Sr. (an immigrant from Ireland) and Mary Miller Kenton. He was a friend of Daniel Boone. And Moses Cushenberry was at Bourbon Co., Ky. Village of Washington and Settlement of Limestone in 1786-1787 when Miles W. Conway and Daniel Boone were Trustees and Simon Kenton was there. Also..... I didn't think I would be posting on this today but it seems Moses Cushenberry died before 1792. It must have been his estate that was challenged in court. New record: Kenton, Simon..... Martha, wife of Moses Cushenbery had a Bargain & Sale (B-2; Wife's exam: B-145 & 146).... 2 Dec 1789; wife's examination 23 Aug 1790. In May 1792 the court oversaw Moses estate since there was no will. It was recorded June 1792. Anne his wife qualified with Nicholas Lindsay her son-in-law and William Quesenberry (her son) , her securities and gave bond, The original estate record is all I have and it is just a few lines in Order Book A May 1792.. it says... 'The Administration of the estate of Moses Quesenberry is granted to Anne Quesenberry who came into Court and qualified and with Nicholas Lindsay (her son-in-law).. and William Quesenberry (her son) her securities gave Bond under penalty of L240 conditioned as the law directs. I have a record from the original where it names , what he owned .. the only names on it is ...Note on Coleman Theobolds 300 Salt.. Ditto on Psar ? Burris... featherbed ,, names Dan Durbin?.. A. Easter.. James Kenney. Then... At a Court for Bourbon County, Ky. at the courthouse on Tuesday, 19 Jan 1790, Indentutre of bargain and sale from Simon Kenton and Marrha (Anne) his wife to Moses Cushenberry was proved by the oaths of Josiah Dickson, Elijah Cushenberry & Vincent Cushenberry, witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded John Edwards , C. B. C. (Ky Genealogist, Vol. 6, p. 66) Now..... in the Ky. Gazette dated 15 Sep 1800 in Bourbon County Aug 1800 , James Kenny complained against all of Moses and Ann's children and Miles W. Conway and Simon Kenton were defendants. .... " James Kenny complaint againft John Cussenbury, William Cussenbury, Elijah Cussenbury, Vincent Cussenbury, Daniel Cussenbury (infant under the age off twenty-one years), Lindsey and Mary his wife, Lindsey and Betsey his wife.. Ross and Anna his wife, and Rachel Cussenbury ( an infant under the age of twenty-one years)... Cussenbury, widow of said Moses, deceased, Miles W. Conway and Simon Kenton, defendants. The article was incorrect as Betsy married Zachariah Ross and Anna married Vachel Lindsay. I have never understood this part except Anne lived until ca 1800. Another record: Josiah Dickson, Elijah Cushenbery and Vincent Cushenbery 150 acres on NE side of South Fork of Licking, part of the Preemption of Craig and Johnston assignees of John May, assignee of James Galloway: in the lines of Dickson and Craig & Johnston; Martha Kenton's exam by Alexander D. 1. [KYLOGAN] Cushenberry Lineage
    2. After 28 years of genealogy research on Moses Cushenberry that died in 1792 in Bourbon Co., Ky. I have always thought he goes back to the family of Aaron Quisenberry, Sr. and Joyce Gayle Dudley in Va and the generations before but could never find a record to prove it and still can't but everything points to it.. I think my Moses is either a brother, uncle or nephew, cousin, etc to Aaron Quisenberry, Sr... something !! . Rev. James Quisenberry son of Aaron Quisenberry, Sr and Joyce Gayle Dudley 's son is Rev. James Quisenberry who left Va to Ky in 1783 the same year my Moses Cushenberry has his first record in 1783 in Bourbon Co. Ky signing the petition for the the state of Kentucky to be established from Virginia. Rev. James Quisenberry's brother John A. Quisenberry was in Ky and left the Fayette / Clark County. Ky area to Warren County, Ky in 1808 and my Moses three sons, Elijah, Daniel and Vincent went there too in 1810. Elijah and my Daniel went to Warren and Allen formed from it while Vincent went to Logan County, Ky. close by after he left Allen.. Rev, Ambrose Dudley was a minister of Bryan's Station Church in Ky where my Cushenberry's were members. He is the son of Robert Dudley and Joyce Gayle and married Anne Parker. Ambrose is a brother to Joyce Gayle Dudley who married Aaron Quisenberry, Sr. who died ca 1795 in Orange Co. Va. Aaron Quisenbery, Sr's line is : i. John Quisenberry and, Sr and Ann Pope ii. Humphrey Quisenberry and Elizabeth Mothershead...... he had brothers John and William Quisenberry iii. Thomas Quisenberry and Caroline Rawlings then Aaron Quisenberry, Sr. born ca 1725 in Caroline Co., Va and died 11 Mar 1795 in Orange Co., Va. Children: (1) Moses (who was mixed up with mine who is older than him ) and married Mary Gatewood; (2).Aaron JR who married Sarah Ellis (3) William who married Agnes Morton (4) John A. who married Rachel Henderson (5) Rev James Quisenberry born 13 Jul 1759 in Spotsylvania Co., Va who married (1) Jane Burris and (2) to Chloe Shipp. (6) George Quisenberry who married Jane Daniel .. she is the dau of Vivion Daniel and Elizabeth Vivion who are also my grandparents but through a Daniel.. Vivion.. Smith.. Thacker... Conway.. Eltonhead .. grandparents of my Mother that is a different line than Moses Cushenberry. LOL !! (7) Winnifred (8) Mary married William Cooper (9) Elizabeth marries Rice Pendleton My grandfather William Davis who came from Culpeper Co., Va daughter's Sally married my Daniel Cushenberry and his dau Mary married Vincent Cushenberry, sons of Moses. William Davis was very close with Benjamin Robinson and it looks like he came with Rev .Lewis Craig's Station on Gilbert Creek in 1782 with my William Davis. They were in Garrard Co., Ky before coming to Fayette Co., Ky. William Davis died in 1823 in Fayette Co., Ky. Benjamon Robinson married Mildred Burbridge and 2nd to Hezekiah Ellis. Elijah Cushenberry son of Moses dau Obedience Cushenberry married Johnson Ellis with Elijah as surety 29 Dec 1807 with consent of parent in Fayette Co., Ky. Johnson Ellis is the son of William Ellis and and Elizabeth Shipp dau of John Shipp and Sally Johnson.. thus Laban and Colby in Fayette County 1787 tax list A with Rawleigh Chinn, and John Tandy with Moses Cushenberry. I descend from Daniel Cushenberry's son James who married Mary "Polly" Pulliam daughter of John Francis Pulliam and Ann (Annis) Parks of Culpeper Co., Va. Marianne Dillow Illinois

In 1835 Rebecca was given to Nancy Walker/Hawkins. When she died Becky and her famliy went to Judge David Walker. I would appricate any help in locating the res! t of my family. My email address is charlenebyrd@comcast.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
