I am interested in finding out more information about an individual who died in Mingo County, West Virginia about Late 1946 or early 1947. His name was Harrison Crum. He is buried in Johns Cemetery, not too far from the Inez, KY line. Were there death certificates in Mingo County for that time frame? What about newspaper obituaries? Can someone help me find when Harrison Crum's death date or obituary? You can email at [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) . Thanks, Wanda A
Thanks for the information Buel, I am descended from John and Jane Grinter Young. Some online databases say they were married in Logan County, Kentucky. However, they were actually married February 24, 1786 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. I have proof on at least three children: 1. John Henry Young. He married Margaret Ewing July 25, 1836 in Butler County, Kentucky. Following Margaret's death, he married Susan Ellen Britt in Logan County, Kentucky on December 07, 1848. 2. William Beverly Young married Florence Porter Ewing in Butler County, Kentucky. Don't have date in front of me, but it is in Butler County Marriage records. 3. Nancy Elmira Young married Nathaniel Ewing February 15, 1836 in Logan County, Kentucky. Margaret, Florence Porter, and Nathaniel Ewing were all children of James and Mary "Polly" Howard Ewing. I have no record of a death for John Young Sr. or Jane Grinter Young. However, a John Young did marry a Mary A. Hopton in Logan County. I am wondering if that was a widowed John remarrying. They show up in the 1850 Logan County census a few houses down from F. N. B. and Rachel Young. Because of age and proximity, I thought F. N. B. might possibly be a brother to "my" Youngs. John and Mary A. Young show children: Belvana?, Josephena?, and J. William. John William was my great-great grandfather. These were not his parents (they were moving to Illinois that year and don't show up either census). This leads me to believe that this may be John the father of William B. , John Henry, and Nancy E. Well, I've rambled on and on. Does anyone have insight into this? Tom D

Kentucky did not keep routine death records until 1911. Kentucky kept some records through the years from 1855-1910. There are many years missing. Russellville has some of the best kept newspaper in Kentucky. They have about 1800- today. I will tell you that there are VERY few obituaries in the early papers. Most of the papers had two pages of world news, two or three pages of Kentucky news and then local news and most of that was ads. That continued through till about the 1920's. The 1840-1890 are missing many years. Obituaries seem to start about the 1950's. It does not hurt to ask about the obituaries. If you write to the Russellville Library, give the death date and ask them to check, they will do a look up and copy for $ .25. Please remember to sent a self stamped return envelope.. If no one comes forward with any death records on Francis Young, I am going to my local library Friday and will pull the microfilm and check to see if indeed there is a record. Sorry, but I cannot help you with additional death information for F. N. B. Young. However, I do have some information on Francis N. Bert Young. He was born about 1821 in Logan County. Francis Married Rachel Ann Warden on 25 September 1845. Francis and Rachel had six children including: David B., John B., Paulina M., William, Samuel, and Robert. I have no information on Francis's father. His mother was Paulina M. Hopefully you can help me with additional information that will increase my knowledge about FNB Young. My gg-grandfather Silas M. Thomas is on the 1850 Robertson Co., TN census. Early in the 1850s he moved to Logan Co., KY where he lived until ca 1892. One deed involving his KY land shows him as Silas M. Gilbert Thomas. Does anyone on this list have any information on a Thomas/Gilbert connection? Thanks for any information.
