2. In trying to find your VanCleves and Bantas, look over in Shelby County KY. A group of these early Dutch (from The Netherlands) did move out of the Mercer/Lincoln area to Shelby. Then, some of those went to Johnson County IN. Hazel

1. Re: Lincoln Co. Slow List
2. Folks, it is a new list. They all take time. What helps is for each of us to post our own queries and, also, for each of us as we can to do lookups for the other. Or, at least make suggestions. When we all just sit back and wait for someone to magically post our own, it remains slow. We need to help each other. As for Lincoln County, since the death of Mrs. Dunn, getting materials from Stanford has always been difficult. They do have a historical society but all it publishes, so far as I know, is a monthly newsletter that does not lend itself to genealogy. I have not yet found anyone who lives in Lincoln County who wants to do research for others. By the way, there is a new Lincoln County book out published by the Boyle County KY Historical Society. It is "Lincoln County Virginia/Kentucky Deed Abstracts 1781 - 1795". Cost: $22 plus $2 postage. Write to Peggy Galloway, 808 Vinson Road, Danville, KY 40422. As for the list coming alive, it surely came alive this morning. I had 33 letters in my box. Whee!!!! Now, after playing "uninvited mama", may I ask if anyone is researching Miller or Goode in Lincoln? Thank you. Hazel

1. spam
2. To all whose mailboxes are getting crowded with spam, there is a way to report it that can be traced. This is from PCWORLD. Go to File-Properties-Details-Message Source. Scan down for the ID number. Then, when you report spam to rootsweb or your server, include this ID number. PCWORLD says this is one piece of identification that they cannot hide. In case someone does not know how to report, it is <abuse@rootsweb.com> or <abuse@(your ISP's name). Seems like we are suddenly getting more spam than usual. Hope this helps. Hazel

1. DISHON
2. Richard Forston
3. I need help finding out anything about early DISHONS in Lincoln. Here's what we know (6 of us online hunting): 1. There are still lots of DISHONS in Lincoln. I know - I've sent them all letters (received one back.) 2. Francis (or ancestor), Luke, and Lewis DISHON all arrived in Lincoln about 1832. 3. Francis fought in the Civil War, along with his son James Henry DISHON. 4. Luke DISHON was a minister of the Reformed Church (whatever that is/was). He performed marraiges. 5. DISHONS intermarried with ADAMS and are connected to PADGETTS and SINGLETONS. 6. Francis DISHON is said to have come from Virginia in two sources and North Carolina in two sources. Anyone here a DISHON descendent, or have info regarding any of them. 1. RAMSEY Research
2. I am researching the RAMSEY families of LINCOLN, ROCKCASTLE, PULASKI, GARRARD counties. Our research has shown that R. ? RAMSEY was the father of my great grandfather Daniel James McCabe RAMSEY b. 1850 probably Pulaski Co.. His brother was John William RAMSEY b. 1848 Rockcastle Co.. John married Sarah Sally Ray of the Ray family of Garrard Co.. We have tried since 1930 to find the parents of John William and Daniel RAMSEY. Their parents died of Typhoid supposedly before the start of the Civil War. H. O. Cable was guardian of them until they served as water and drummer boys in the Civil War. John stayed and married and lived his life in Stanford, Crab Orchard and Bee Lick. Daniel left with the Estes family in 1868 or so and went to Missouri and on to Kansas. Any help at all on any part of this, would be greatly appreciated. Nancy Norris, Goddard, Ks Genealogy Home Page

1. Lincoln Co. History
2. Hi Ya'll !! The recent activity on this list is fantastic. I didn't find any leads to my line but who knows what lies just around the corner!! I too have posted notices to this list and received no replies. However, my direct ancestor Obediah Eastes/Estes only lived there from 1794 to 1801! They moved aross the OH river in 1802 into IN Terr. I am searching in Lincoln and surrounding Counties for EASTES/ESTES and HARVEY families. Obediah Eastes/Estes married Francis Harvey 9 Feb 1792 in Edgefield SC. In 1794 they traveled the Wilderness Trail with three small children and stopped in Crab Orchard. They bought 17 acres of Land on Gilbert's creek and paid taxes until 1801. It is believed that Obediah Eastes/Estesand Francis Harvey both had relatives in KY before they left SC. The descendants of some may still be in the area. I am also searching for this family: Descendants of Elisha 07 Estes 1. ELISHA 071 ESTES died 1818 in Roane Co., (Other than the will, nothing is known about this Elisha. I have 33 Elisha Estes in my Estes/Eastes Data Base. This one is #7) Notes: The names of the children were taken from Elisha's will which was difficult to read but not impossible. Dates for children 9 and 10 was taken from the 1850 census for Pulaski Co. KY. Other than children 9 and 10, the dates of the others are unknown and may not be in order. The will had the name Eastus at the beginning but was signed as Estes. Data was submitted by Marjorie Rogers, 420 E. Radiance Dr, Greensburg, NC 27403 in 1982. Children of ELISHA ESTES and MARY are: i. OBEDIAH ESTES. ii. ELIZABETH2 ESTES, m. UNKNOWN CRUMLESS. iii. CLARY ESTES, m. UNKNOWN WEBB. iv. MARY ESTES, m. UNKNOWN BRISTER. v. SUSANNA ESTES. vi. JENNY (JINCY) ESTES, m. HUGHBOUR. vii. WILMOTH ESTES, m. UNKNOWN MULLEKIN. ** viii. DAVID SHIPTON ESTES, b. Abt. 1776, VA; d. 04-July-1861, Pulaski Co., KY. ** ix. ELISHA 08 ESTES, b. Abt. 1778, VA; d. Aft. 1850, Pulaski Co., KY. ** Denotes - Have Records on Descendants ______________________________________________________ If anyone who can shed any light on the the Eastes/Estes and Harvey lines, I would appreciate hearing from you!! Keep up the great posting of queries and records - this is great! Best Regards to All Roy Eastes Gulfport, MS

1. vital records
2. It is interesting to me to see you younger people having the same type of experiences in Lincoln County I did twenty years ago. I was researching Forbes,Forbis,Faubush (as my Madison and Laurel Counties ancestors called the surname). I was given the name of a researcher who could help me by the county clerk which was okay-I always pay my way. But when I got an eagerly awaited record, the "prize" turned out to be the wrong record. It was one of a John FORD. Naturally, I assumed the researcher would correct her mistake. You guessed it.I never got the right document or a refund. I hoped then and hope now she needed the money more than I did. I have never gone into Lincoln County to work oon my family lines because of the attitudes I ran into. I, and my family spent vacations in other Kentucky Counties and spent our Yankee money there. We've had a lot of good times and met some really great people. You would think that from the dollar standpoint Lincoln County would want genealogists to come, and where is the local pride in their history? Knox County, for one, goes out of their way to make us welcome. End of lecture. You all have a pleasant Valentines's day,-

1. David Williams-Lincoln Co.KY
2. Hello Lincoln researchers: I have been searching for clues to the identity of David Williams who settled in Lincoln Co about 1781. The April 1781 Order Book records that a deposition be taken from him in the suit of Ann Poage against William Poage. David Williams bought land from Benjamin Logan on Hanging Fork near Hustonville. He had adult children, some of whom married in Lincoln Co. His children were Mary who never married; Rhoda Jane who married George Corn 28 Nov. 1796, Shelby Co., KY; Elizabeth married James Kerr 23 July 1790 in Lincoln Co.; Hannah married William Kerr 3 Mar 1791 in Lincoln Co; Samuel married Elizabeth McFadden in Garrard Co.; Ann married a McAlister, date and place unknown; David married Mary Ann Robertson 12 Dec 1807 in Lincoln Co.; Margaret Ann married John Reynolds probably 5 Nov 1804 Pulaski Co.; Joseph (my line) married Esther Elet Hambleton 24 Aug. 1797 in Shelby Co.KY. The identity of the children came from the will of Mary Williams who died about 1840 and whose will was subsequently probated. David Williams' will was filed in 1815 and he did not name a wife or his state of birth. Any information on this family or surname families associated with his children would be much appreciated. I will exchange information also. Eldred Melton

3. I don't have much info on Lincoln here. I do have a bunch of marriages that I got, but about all I can tell anyone from them is Who married who on what date. I will do lookups for you if you email me privately and are patient. I teach school and don't have a lot of time during the school year to devote to genealogy, especially when the weather gets a little bit better and I have to add yard work to my list. 1. Re:Lincoln Requests to Courthouse
2. Mary Jo. I have a cousin that lives in Casey Co who did a lot of research in Lincoln. She tells me that they don't do the look ups themselves at the court house and you must hire outside help to get the records for you. . They are really very picky about their records in Lincoln. . I suppose the researcher's name sent you, is one they know will not damage the records. . It is not uncommon to have things come up missing as you must know. The other morning on World News Now they were telling about someone stealing the signature off the deed to a farm that Babe RUTH had purchased. .Whomever did it cut it out very neatly. .
