    3. Hi! I have family that settled in Lincoln Co. Ky in the early 1780's, it later became Mercer and Boyle Co's. Pam Carey has the greatest site on the web in Mercer Co. Ky She has helped me locate at least 10 people that have the same 5th greatgrandfather as I do. because of her work I have been able to locate kin in Mercer, Boyle,Lincoln,Casey, and Christian Co's. I am researching the Carpenters ,Crains, Bottoms, Chritchfields, and McGraw's on my fathers and the Allen's and Davis's of Christian Co. and Logan Co. Ky on my mothers side. Will be happy to share information. Harry Carpenter

    3. You are forgetting that Lincoln County was formed in 1780 from VA, and encompassed a good portion of the state until 1792. It was still fairly large from 1792 - 1799. There is a lot of names and history to be found in Lincoln County. If you will look at the maps by Wendell Rone of how KY evolved to what it is today, and how the counties formed, you will have a better idea of what I am talking about. They can be found online at: http://www.uky.edu/LCC/HIS/scraps/kymaps.html To get a better idea: In 1790 KY was about the same size it is today, but there were only 9 counties. In 1800 there were 42 counties, by 1810 - 54 counties. By 1970, KY had 120 counties. Of those 9 counties, Lincoln was the major part of KY.

A simple listing of surnames is all that is required. A roll call done every so often is a good reminder to everyone of what names are out there being researched on a particular list. Then, you can contact the person whose names interest you. I have found many cousins that way. Libby.

    3. Would like to get on the band wagon and join the Roll Call. I would also like to toss out an idea - there really can't have been that many early settlers in Lincoln County. We all know that the records have NOT all been copied and are endangered. Most of us that have more than one line in those early settlers end up being related to a good share of the others. I wish we could come up with a plan to really glean the records of every name EVERY time one of us has access to them. The alternate idea would be to systematically glean every record and get the material either copied or picked clean of names and information before it is lost to age, theft, fire - whatever. Lincoln County seems to have the least attention of genealogists. Sometimes I don't see a single mention of Lincoln County in an entire issue of "Kentucky Explorer. I NEVER see the name of a researcher willing to do research IN Lincoln County in ANY of the many gen publications that I subscribe to. Lincoln is truly the forgotten county and it is amazing when one considers that the foundation of the state is there! I think one of the main problems is that while many of us have Lincoln County roots - we don't LIVE anywhere near there now. So it's easy for people like myself, who have never BEEN to Lincoln County, to say "let's glean those records!". I spoke to an archeologist in one of the upstate colleges last year that was willing to do research in the Lincoln County courthouse. She is gravely concerned about the fragile condition of the records and their very vulnerability in being the ONLY copy of so much data in such an old building. She also believes that it is because Lincoln County is NOT one of the current hot spots in the state that it is so neglected. Obviously ALL the records are important - but MAYBE a focus on the first 50 years after the beginning of the court records and documents would be a start. My cousin DID get to spend a few days in the court house last fall; she said many of the records are so delicate - they hated to touch them. WHAT CAN WE DO - FELLOW DESCENDANTS of Lincoln County Pioneers??? If you are reading this email - you have an interest in that County. Marcellene Graham Davis dvsclan@hotmail.com ******************************************************************** My names of interest in Lincoln County are the following: BARNETT, PEMBERTON, WINDSOR, LYONS, MAY, TEAGUE, TROYER/TRAYER, McDANIEL, McFAIR/FAIR, LANDBARRIER/LINEBERRY, WRIGHT, BLACKLIDGE, MONTGOMERY, GIVENS, BERRY, ALLEN, CATHEY My greatest quest in Lincoln County is to FIND the parents of Captain Robert Barnett, who served under George Rogers Clark, and established Barnett Station in Lincoln County, near Stanford and to FIND the parents of his wife, Elizabeth. 2. The book "Kentucky Ancestry" published by Ancestry list the records available at Kentucky Historical Society, University of Kentucky Special Collection, and Kentucky Library and Archives by county. This book sales for 24.95, list all counties and their origination dates and which county they came from. It has alot of info. It should be available in any good genealogy bookstore. All KY researchers should have this book. Also, all Family History Centers have a catalog listing available records at Salt Lake. Some of these are available on film or fiche. I have researched Lincoln County for many years and have only had a few problems. I think we should all write letters to the county clerk and maybe we could get some cooperation. 3. I am interested in anyone who has "ANY" information about the Henry DOUGHERTY who married Katherine FRENCH in Lincoln County, KY 21 May 1792. I descend from both FRENCH and DOUGHERTY lines and am very interested in this marriage! Much later, in Orange County, Indiana there is a headstone in the French Family Cemetery for a baby named Katherine and I always wondered if she wasn't named for this Katherine above! Appreciate any help at all....no matter how insignificant it might seem to you!!! Also interested in anyone knowing about the surname McMURTRY. Thanks, Jan Lund

    3. Every request seems to be handled differently. I've sent for records the Clerk's office told me after I called to check on it since 3 months had passed, they give them to a lady that does them for them and gave me her phone number I called and she was running behind but after a couple of months I got them.
