    1. [KYLEWIS-L] Rev John Gregg FEE
    2. Dorris "Glimpses of Historic Madison Co,Ky" Raised in Bracken Co,Ky and educated at AUGUSTA COLLEGE,Miami,AND Cincinnati's Lane Seminary-last a hotbed of anti-slavery feelings. 1818-1906 Rev JOHN G FEE tried to talk his father, GEORGE[?] into freeing his slaves. His father left him $1 in his will. Rev JOHN G FEE had been mobbed in BRACKEN,MASON,and LEWIS cO,kY before moving to Madison Co to establish Berea. 'In the years 1857-58,I had appointments to preach in Lewis Chapel,in the Big Bend of the Ky RIVER" and was mobbed. Oct,1859 was JOHN BROWN's famous raid, and FEE was then east raising money for Berea. And he preached in HENRY WARD BEECHER's church, and it was reported back to KY that he was raising similar money for JOHN BROWN's in Ky. At Beecher's,he had said" the country needed more me with the courage and spirit of sacrifice of JOHN BROWN,if not his methods" A meeting of DEC 24,1859 AT BEREA expelled FEE,and JOHN A.R.ROGERS. Fee went to relatives in BRACKEN cO,from where he was soon expelled. REV JAMES SCOTT DAVIS WAS ORDERDED OUT OF LEWIS CO,where he had ministered many years. Later, when REV FEE went back to KY to put a stone on his son's grave,he was driven away again. Fee wrote an autobiography. Where I live 10+ miles north of the Ohio River, the churches divided over whether to follow the law of man-'The Fugitave Slave Law" and turn in illegal slave escapees,or to aid the SLAVES. I sit within 1 1\2 miles of METHODIST churches on eithr side. 3 miles of another set of Methodist churches split. Baptists split. Most of the Presbyterian ministers were active anti-slavery at least, and UNDERGROUND RRers. "The Autobiography of JOHN P.Parker,Former Slave and Conductor ofthe Underground RR -HIS PROMISED LAND" S.S. SPRAGUE 1994 is in my hand. Parker lived on the bank of the Ohio in RIPLEY,and rowed hunting slaves to aid at night. Rev Rankin'S home is honored for it' light in the window to guide slaves. Rankin's home was atop the river hill at RIPLEY,and REV RANKIN had grown, armed sons at night. Black John Parker lived on the riverbank. And could have legally been captured and sold bck into slavery,if everything was known. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it.
