My husband is a double WOLFE. His mother was born Kathryn "Marie" WOLFE on the Harrison-Pendleton line and his father was Virgil Lee WOLF in Pendleton Co. She informed him that he didn't know how to spell his name so they used the "E". Both lines concentrated in the same few counties, repeatedly used the same given names (George, Lewis, John, Thomas, and famous people, i.e. George Washington WOLF(E), Benjamin Franklin WOLF(E) etc.), and many were blacksmiths. Everyone assumed that there had to be a connection but no one knew it. Last December, in the Cynthiana (Harrison Co.) library, I found the answer. (You may have heard my shouts of joy in CA or Australia.) Thanks to a lady who sent me info with the caution that she knew there were mistakes (One of those mistakes gave me a clue - second wife was listed as wife of son instead of father and her children were listed as children of first wife), the fabulous people in Cynthiana (Harrison Co.), and the BARTON PAPERS, I found the answer. Marie and Virgil were 3rd cousins. I am listing only these two direct lines here. I have much more info than this. Sep 8, 1822 Third Generation m's) John Lewis WOLFE (ca 1815-1900) m. 1) Melinda LEMONS and 2) Lucinda ASBURY **We come form second marriage** We had these as if John "Lewis" were 2 different people. My discovery was that he was one man with two marriages. v's) George Lancelot WOLFE (1838- ) m. 1)Sarah Angelina DUNN (1st cousin) in Tipton Co., IN in 1867. These are Virgil's grandparents. 2) Nancy Chandler Fourth Generation m's) James H. WOLFE (1865-1953) m. Amanda Newton KING (1880-1980) in Harrison Co. in 1895 v's) Bejamin Franklin WOLF ( ca 1865 IN-1953 KY) m. 1) Margaret FRAKES - no children 2) Easter Lavinia "Lula" BAKER McMILLIAM VASTINE ca 1895.
