    2. Will of Joseph Carpenter Jr (Court Records Botetourt Co. Va, pages 332 and 333) In the name of God Amen this twenty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-two I Joseph Carpenter of Botetourt County and Commonwealth of Virginia being in my perfect mind and memory but calling to mind the Mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die make and ordain this my last Will and testament and first of all I give and recommend my Sohl to god that gave it and for my bod I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a cristian like manner at the Descretion of my Excoutors and as touching my worldly estate wherein it has please God bless me with in this life I give Devise and Despose of the same in the following manner and form. In the first place it is my will and I do Order that all my just Debts and Funeral Charges be paid and satisfied. Item I give and bequeath to well beloved Daughter abegale Millong the Sume of ten shillings Current Money of Virginia Item I give and bequeath my well belove Daughter Mary Viers the Sume of ten shillings Current Money of Virginia Item I give and to my well beloved Daughter Sarah Gelaspy the sume of ten Shillings Current Money of Virginia Item I give to my well beloved Daughter Juda Shaver the Sume of ten Shillings Current Money of Virginia Item I give to my Daughter Marthew Carpenter the Sume of ten shillings current money of Virginia Item I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Samuel Carpenter the upper End of the plantation I now live on that is all the land that is on the same side of the River I live on that is below my dwelling above the said House and also I give to my said son one negro woman named Dall (Doll? Ball?) and one negro child named Mill (Will?) and also bequeath my said son the one third part of all my movable estate. Item I give to my well beloved son William Carpenter all the Land I have on the North side of the River I mean the Land that William Gelaspy now lives on and to extend up the said River to Wallis Estills Line and I also give to my said son one Negro child named Winnie and also the one third of my moveable estate Item I give and bequeath to my well beloved Wife the third part of the said Lands above mentioned with the Mantion House to have freely on her owne and to use and acopy at her Descretion During her life and I also give her one negro child named Loot (?) with one third of all my moveable estate to her and her Heirs forever I likewise apoint constitute make and ordain Wallis Estills and Samuel Carpenter my whole and sole Executors of this my last will and testament and of I hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all amen of the former testamony Bills Legucus and Executors by me in any way before this time and I do acknowledge this to be my last will and testament and no other in Witness whereof I have here unto set any hand the Day and Year above written. N B all the said Legasces (???) to my said Children I do give them as before mentioned and their Heirs forever Signed Joseph Carpenter (His mark) Wallis Estills Stephen Allen William Read Mary Kelly (her mark) At July Botetourt Court 1792 this last will and testament of Joseph Carpenter Deceased was proved by the oath of William Reed one of the witnesses hereto subscribed and ordered to lie for further proof and at september Court 1792 was fully proved by the oath of Stephen Allen and ordered to be recorded and on the mention of Wallis Estills as executor herein named who made oath and entered into bond with security conditions as the Law directs Certificate was granted him for obtaining a Probate there of in Due Form a copy teste Boniger (?)
