Tom: I've kept your post regarding Thomas Ruggles and Amelia Stricklett/Burris. When I first started doing my research in the early 1970's I had the same information. I received this information from Helen Rudy Wallingford Pryor. I still have her letter dated Jan 1973. She refers to Thomas' first wife as Amelia Stricklett, dau of Mathew and Ruth Scott Stricklett. She refers to his second wife as Elizabeth Lee the possible daughter of Barton Lee. Then later in the letter she mentions an article in the Sumner County Kansas paper which states: "The paternal grandparents of our subject were Thomas and Louisa (Bourse) Ruggles, both of whom were born in New England, the grandfather being of English ancestry." The article was about Moses and Eliza (Roberts) Ruggles. She further states that she is in possession of photocopies of the Bible records of Anna Eliza Ruggles, b. Mar 29 1845 and they show data of Thomas Ruggles and his family, also of Silas A. (Anderson) Ruggles and his family. I have never found anything that confirms the marriage of Thomas Ruggles to a Stricklett. I'm wondering where this info first came from. Phoebe Pantier Bush [email protected]
