    3. A interesting not about the Alexander SMITH that appeared in the 1850 census is that he had a daughter , Amanda SMITH that married a George STRICKLETT in 1849. George and Amanda both died in 1852 of Typhoid fever leaving two small sons, John and Charles STRICKLETT. Alexander SMITH raised these two boys. The Alexander SMITH family moves to MO and later to KS after the death of George and Amanda. Below are the SMITHs I found in the Two cemetery books I have. Remember there are 13 more -details on getting those books at end of letter. I do not know about adoptions in Lewis County but sure someone at Historical Society can answer that.
