    1. [KYLEWIS-L] Will of John Voiers b 8/6/1826 d 7/4/1896
    2. I thought some of the group might find this of interest. I transcribed it from a very bad microfilm print. Next time I go to Frankfort, I will restrict myself to the original ledgers and ignore the microfilm of wills since it's almost impossible to get a legible print off the machines there. John Voiers was my great-grandfather. One of his daughters, 'Birtie' aka Alberta Voiers was my grandmother. She died when I was eight and I remember her very well. Voiers has been spelled different ways, such as Viers, Viars, Vires, Voires, Voiers, Voyers, Voyer, Vorus. John Voiers was quite interested in the stars and the constellations. He named his eleventh child Orion Eleven after the Orion Constellation. Last Will and Testament of John Voiers, Decd. Lewis County Court Aug 17, 1896 A writing purporting to e the last will & testament of John Voiers late of this county, deceased, was this day produced to court and duly proven by the oath of W. A. Voires, one o fthe submitting witnesses thereto, Who also proved the attestation and signature of A. B. Elliott the other submitting witness there to and the same is ordered to be filed and awarded as the true last will & testament of said decedent. A copy Attested by Thomas A. Mitchel, Clerk I, John Voiers, of state of Ky and County of Lewis, being of sound mind and ......... memory and knowing of the uncertainty of human life and desiring to make a disposition of my estate, do make this my last will and testament. First: I will that all of my just debts and funeral expenses be fully paid. Second: I give and bequeath to my son Charles E. Voires a Sorrel Colt which I now own if said Colt is still living at my death. Third: I will and bequeath al the residue of my personal estate and all my real estate to my wife Louisiana Voiers the rest of her life, providing she remain my widow. If she should marry then my wish her to have her dowery in my estate. Fourth: I will and desire my son James Voires shall be permitted to remain in possession of the land he now occupies so long as he desires, free of rent. Fifth: At my wife's death I will that all my property both real and personal shall be divided between my children in the following way and amounts to Jas Voires one eleventh, to Eliza Parker one eleventh, John R. Voires one eleventh, Lindsay Voires one eleventh, Martha Frizzell one eleventh, Robt Voires one eleventh, Bertie Voires one eleventh, Orion Voires one eleventh, Charles Voires one eleventh, Anna Voires one eleventh and to Lillie Ginn the wife of John V Ginn I will one eleventh to be given to her at the death of John V. Ginn her husband if she survives him. If he should survive her then I will the share intended for Lillie shall be go to Orion Voiers. It is my will and desire that the eleventh ...... as going to Lillie Ginn. I do not desire that she shall or her husband John V. have any ........ or use of it and she is not to have it until said John V. Ginn's death. Sixth: I will to my daughter Lillie Ginn one dollar. I appoint and make Will L. Fitch, Esqr of Vanceburg, Ky, an executor of this my will and desire he does faithfully and carefully carry out ......... and request the court to appoint him with ......d. ...... ..... my hand this 27 day of Sept 1889 witt: A. B. Elliott W. A. Voiers John Voiers I wonder what his son-in-law John Ginn had done to anger him so much? John was making very sure that John V. Ginn had no benefit at all from his estate. Louisiana lived until 1920 so it was 24 years after his death that their children received any proceeds from the estate. Sue Bishop
