Clarksburg is a small village southwest of Vanceburg, Lewis Co., and was Lewis county's first OFFICIAL county seat. It was moved to Vanceburg in 1863. Lewis County was name for Merriwether Lewis and Clarksburg was named for William Clark. A detailed history of the establishment of Clarksburg was recently published in the Lewis County Herald.
