My paternal grandmother was Lorene THOMPSON-BUTLER and she lived in Quincy for years on a property which was owned by her son-in-law Oral LILES. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I read that, or even if this is accurate. Can anyone tell me how and when Quincy, Kentucky got its name? Thank you for your help on this. Quincy was not incorporated until 1861, but I think that the community of Quincy was called such for years before that. It is good to be back with the Lewis County researchers, and I look forward to delving into the history of Quincy, which means of course the residents of Quincy! My third-great grandfather William COOPER lived in Quincy from about 1852 to about 1859, and from 1865 to sometime in the 1880's. In the 1870 Census of Quincy, William COOPER was recorded as living in the home of (Steamboat Captain) John BOYLE. Surnames of special interest in my research of Quincy are: BOYLE, WOODWORTH, HACKWORTH, MCKEE, FRUIT, TRUITT, THOMPSON, DAVIDSON, MADDY and AUMILLER.
