    3. Maria, I also descend from Benjamin Applegate (1774 VA- 1862 Lewis Co, KY) through his youngest son William Walter Applegate. Benjamin married a second time in 1829 to Mrs. Rebecca (Robb) Douglas. Their three children were James, John, and William Walter. Benjamin's first wife on numerous sites is listed as Hannah Peters - no doubt this information is taken from the Voress' "Applegates in America" site. Unfortunately, that site has multiple proven errors on it. And this is just another one. In Benjamin's will he lists his "three youngest sons": James, John, and William. He also lists his "children by Mary Rummins": Sally Wallingford, Thomas, Richard, Katherine Thomas, Jacob, Benjamin, Basil B., Margaret French, and Solomon. Of course, there is a possibility that he did indeed marry first to a Hannah Peters but his will clearly identifies the mother of his older children as Mary Rummins.
