The LDS site (www.familysearch.com) lists a Martha Mers as the wife of Daniel Mers in the 1880 census. She is listed as born in Ohio and they are living in Colorado. You might want to check the site out and see what you can find. There was a listing for a James Harrison Gray but they had him married to someone else than you had him listed to.
