Evidently, the steep hillsides were valued at $1 per acre. I remember visiting Lake Hope in Vinton Co,Oh about 1950 and being told that the locals recieved $5 per acre when it was built in the 1930's [?].Again, rugged land. Last week,I was in n e Adams Co, Ohio n e of Peebles,Ohio,or 30-40 miles north of Quincy. I was at a location that had once been smoothed by a glacier, but within sight ,in 3 directions,of knobs left because the glacier ended where I was. No glacier ever smoothed s Quincy, or,at least, south of St Paul,Ky,where I personally know. I hunted up Coon Hollow into Copeland Mt,in Adams Co 40 years ago. There were empty cabins way back that hollow, where there was no land level enough for a garden spot, except 500 steep feet up. Even a pasture on hills that steep would have been droughty.
