Hi Mark, Thanks for writing, I am a descendant of James Peter Stricklett, who was a brother to rebecca stricklett who was married to Polley and Cox. I do have some things different from your material but most the same. I am trying to clear up misinformation and verify information I have. I got a got of material from a Schubert stricklett and Joh "Gus" Doyle. I have found some of Gus's material in question. Maybe you have found some in your searching. Jacob Stricklett did marry Margaret Cox. I was wondering about this Obadiah COX and children had been killed by Indians near Brush Creek in Adams Co., OH. This has been passed on to many Stricklett researchers but I think this may have been started by someone who misread the Adams County Ohio history. The only person who could tell me anything about this was a Mary Ann Riley who told me she read it in the Adams County History. There is an account of a Obadiah Cox's two children being killed but this Obadiah lived long after Margaret and Jacob were married according to what I read. In Talley's Northeastern Kentucky Papers, by William Talley Ph. D., 1997 Windmill Publications, Inc., 1995 Page 89-90 PART TWO May 9, 1940 There is an article aboutthe Doyles and the Strickletts. In talking about problems with Indians, Talley mentions "back across the river. On another occasion two children, John and Obadiah, sons of Obadiah Stout were tommyhawked and killed near the station. Shubert Stricklett stated that Jacob married Martha Cox a widow of a Lieutenant Cox when he was killed at Fallen Timbers. She gave consent for her daughter, Peggy Cox, to get married in 1805 while Lewis County was still a part of Mason County and gave her name as Margaret "Stricklett", so it seems to me that she must have been first married to the Stout, then Cox, then Stricklett. Her maiden name was MacLeish (anglicized to McClease). From a letter 5/4/1998 from Dr. William Talley >From "Talley's Kentucky Papers" book on P. 122 , Lewis County Abstracts from the Lewis County Order Book B (P. 1690) Sept. 1815, Margaret Stricklett, mother of Marcus Cox, deceased Jacob Stricklett Served with General Andrew Lewis in the battle of Point Pleasant, VA , in Oct 1774. Served with General Anthony Wayne's Legion of the United States at Fallen I recieved this info above from notes of Gus Doyle. I don't think Jacob was at point pleaant in 1774 as I thin he was born about 1770. Sarah also said her grandfather was a Colonel of the Pennsylvania Volunteers under General Wayne, and on 20 August 1794 was at the battle of Fallen Timbers on the banks of the Maumee River near Toledo. He fought with old General Wayne, against Chief Little Turtle. There were lots of trees down from an old tornado where the battle took place. When grandfather Jake charged into the woods on horseback, the horse became entangled in the fallen timber, and fell on him, breaking his leg in two places. His leg healed crooked and he was relieved from duty. ) I think Jacob was probably with General Wayne at Fallen Timbers as a part of the Kentucky Volunteers as the Stricklett family was already in Kentucky by November of 1794 and the history of the battle says that there were one hundred-fifty mounted Kentucky volunteers that were leading Wayne's army downstream that came into the center of an ambush line of about 1,100 Indian warriors and 100 British volunteers. The Kentuckians fled towards the main army some 500 yards behind. There was a line of several hundred Light Infantry and riflemen that were covering the deployment of the main body of the Legion infantry in a tangle of trees and that is where the Kentuckians also took cover. ) I have a few things different in the Children of Jacob and Margaret. If you are interested a could send you want I have on the first few generations. Let me know what you think of the above info.
