    3. A few times I have seen people post queries to the list that if they had known where to look they could have found the information themselves and maybe had fun doing it. With that in mind, here are some places that I have found helpful over the years in looking up my family that some newcomers might not know about. They aren't the only ones by a long shot but a place to start. Enjoy www.cydislist.com is a compilation of just about everywhere that offers genealogical places to search. www.familysearch.com is the LDS site that is tremendous. They have the 1880 census available and it is all free. www.rootsweb.com if you haven't already it is a good place to start www.worldconnect.com part of roostweb but very searchable with specifics www.genforum.com a neat place to go to see if there is anyone else out there looking at the same family tree as you are www.raogk.com is a neat place where you can get help from people who volunteer their time to do lookups for folks that can't travel to where their family started out. Read the directions for their services carefully before asking for their help. They are volunteers after all. You can also get places by typing in the name you are looking for in quotation marks i.e. "John Edward Doe" and a qualifier such as 'Missouri' outside the quotation marks in your search engine and it may bring up the family in someone's webpage. Good thing to try on a rainy day when you are bored stiff! www.ancestry.com has information that is free along with the stuff they charge for. They also run specials where you can sign up free for two weeks and have access to various databases that they normally charge for. If you are like me...it wouldn't take two weeks to look up all the stuff you have an interest in. Good luck Pam
