    1. [ KYLEWIS] "Old Soldiers' Home": National Home near Dayton, Ohio?
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. Dear Elizabeth Gerber and the Balance of the Lewis County, Kentucky Discussion Group, The "Old Soldiers' Home" in which Union Civil War Veteran William M. Wells resided the latter part of his life might have been the National Military Home for Disabled Union Veterans, which was located near Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. The Home is now a Veterans Administration Hospital and it was indeed known as the "Old Soldiers' Home". My third-great grandfather William Cooper spent a few months recuperating in that institution, in 1883 and 1884. William Cooper was a member of Company "E" of the Union Army's Twenty-second Regiment of Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. Company "E" was composed almost entirely of men from Lewis County. The Company was led by Captain Alexander Bruce of Quincy/Foreman's Bottom. William Cooper was wounded in the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou, Mississippi, December 29, 1862. Private Cooper took a mini-ball in the forehead, an inch above his right eye. Sincerely, Randal W. Cooper
