Denise I am the one searching for the exact location of Swearingen mills used as a reference point in several Lewis Co records. This mill was located on Cabin Creek (per p. 25 Ragan's History of Lewis Co). Anyway, - just a few Swearingin records 1810 census Lewis - (fa) John age 45+ = b. bef 1765, (sons) Daniel, Jno, Othe 1820 census Lewis - (fa) John, Daniel, Marmaduke,Abraham, Charles, Bartlett[?Barkley], John, Jr [age 26/44 =b 1776-1794] 1830 I can get it if you need it 1840 census Lewis (surnames in alpha order-so can't determine location) James Swearingin, [?W.] Swearingin, B. Swearingin, C. Swearingin, and JOHN SWEARINGIN [both he and wife age 90/100 = b. 1740/50******] Some online family trees list fa John as died 1834 and buried at East Fork Christian Church ---- BUT --- the John Swearingin on the cemetery list d. 1-31-1834, age 57 [= b. abt 1777] and thus JOHN, JR Clearly, fa John was still alive in 1840 and another tree lists death as 1844. Thanks for the further information about the Swearingens, Barb. I really appreciate it. I wish I could help you nail down the location of the Swearingen mills, but I've had very little information about my Swearingen ancestors. Here is my ancestry with the Swearingens: Elizabeth Swearingen (b 1839, Lewis Co., KY) married Squire Ruggles (b 1839?, Lewis Co., KY). She was the daughter of James Swearingen (b 1808, Lewis Co., KY) and Elizabeth Montgomery (b 1809, PA). James was the son of Marmaduke Swearingen (b abt 1784, possibly Fayette Co., PA) and Mary Stratton (his second wife, b abt 1787 possibly Mason Co., KY). Marmaduke was the son of John Swearingen (b 1752, Frederick, MD) and Jane Barkley (b abt 1760, possibly Fayette Co., PA). ~ DeniseC You must be the change you wish to see in the world. ~ Mahatma Gandhi :-----Original Message----- :From: BA [mailto:barich@fuse.net] : :Denise :I am the one searching for the exact location of Swearingen mills used as a :reference point in :several Lewis Co records.
