Have you any evidence to check this out? I have looked for but not been able to find any way of checking this out. However, there is an Amelia Burris marrying a Thomas Ruggles and the dates do match up. She died April 27, 1839, and is buried at Ribolt, KY. I was given the information that Amelia Stricklett was married to Thomas Ruggles, but am now questioning if this is Amelia Burris or Amelia Stricklett that is married to Thomas Ruggles. Would like to hear if you have anything to back up that this is Amelia Stricklett that is married to Thomas Ruggles. Tom Powell in New Hampshire

    1. [KYLEWIS-L] 1860 Census Request: Allen STACY (bca 1822/VA)
    2. Allen Richmond
    3. Howdy again all: As a follow-up to the Riley STACY inquiry (1870 Lewis Co Census), I'm also in a hunt for further information concerning Allen STACY and family as may be found in the 1860 Lewis Co KY census. I'm curious to learn if Riley STACY (bca 1842/KY per 1870) may appear in the 1860 household of Allen STACY 1870 Elk Fork District, Lewis Co, shows this family in 100/100: STACY, Allen 48 M W Farmer $150/$300 VA Nancy 47 F W Keeping House VA John 17 M W Laborer KY William R 15 M W Laborer KY Hiram 12 M W Laborer KY Mahaley 10 F W KY [aka Mahala?] Mashack 8 M W KY [aka Meshack?] Mary 5 F W KY James H 2 M W KY Given that Riley STACY (bca 1842/KY) names his daughter Nancy STACY (bca 1864/KY) and son Allen STACY (b Feb 1870/KY) makes me believe there is a connection between Riley STACY and Allen STACY. (Son:Father? Younger:Elder siblings?) Also noted within this same (1870) census very close by are the following STACYs - relatives perhaps?: 96/96: Mashack (sic) STACY (age 31), wife Mary (24) and family: Margret B (7), John (4), Louisa J (2), Rebecca (3/12) & Margaret (68) 103/103: John STACY (age 42), wife Annie (40) and family: Martha (19), Nancy (17), Evoline (13), Samuel (11), Margret (8), Geo R (6) & John H (4) Again, any assistance would be tremendously appreciated! Thanks! 1. [KYLEWIS-L] 1880 Census Request: Riley STACY (bca 1842/KY)
    2. Allen Richmond
    3. Howdy all: Would someone have handy a copy od (or access to) the 1880 Lewis Co census? I'm in a hunt for further information concerning Riley STACY and family. The 1870 Elk Fork District, Lewis Co, shows this family in 87/87: STACY, Riley 28 M W Farmer $300RE KY Rebecca 25 F W Keeping house KY Nancy E 6 F W KY Allen 7/12 M W KY Lezana 21 F W Housework KY "Family lore" has Riley married to one Adeline HANEY. She could be aka Rebecca Adeline HANEY (?), or perhaps Rebecca is a first (?) marriage for Riley, and Adeline was a second spouse. Based on the 1870 entry, I would make an educated guess that Riley and Rebecca were possibly married 1863-64. No information about Riley's parentage is currently known. Any assistance would be tremendously appreciated! Thanks! Now there are those claiming that Margaret's maiden name was Stout. Others are claiming that it is McCleese. Gus was the one I remember saying that it was Obadiah Cox who was killed by Indians and then his widow remarried to Jacob Stricklett. Now as per your e-mail some are saying that it was not Obadiah Cox as Gus has reportedly said it was. 3. Good morning, everyone. Heres what I have on the McCleese/Stricklet families. I would welcome any corrections or additional information. Peter Stricklett, born ca. 1730, married ca. 1773, in Philadelphia to ???. He died before 1810 in Lewis County, Kentucky, and was buried after 1808 on Greenhow Branch, a tributary of Quicks Run, in Lewis County. He had at least three children: Mary, born ca. 1773 in Pennsylvania, married William Campbell, November 25, 1793. Jacob, born ca. 1778 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, married Margaret McCleese Cox, October 31, 1798, in Adams County, Ohio. He died after 1850 in lewis County. He was buried in the Old Burying Place in Lewis County which, as close as I can figure, is somewhere near the mouth of Martins Fork of Quicks Run. Amerlia, born July 7, 1792, married Thomas Ruggles, October 5, 1808, and died August 27, 1839 in Lewis County. ************************************************************************ Jacob Stricklett, son of Peter, above, moved from Pennsylvania to Kentucky as a young man. He served with General Andrew Lewis in the battle of Point Pleasant, Virginia, in October 1774, and served with General Anthony Waynes Legion of the United States at Fallen Timbers on August 20, 1794. In 1784 a line of forts was built on the Ohio River, and a blockhouse under the command of John G. McDowell was constructed near the mouth of Quick's Run. Jacob Stricklett was an occupant of this fort. Soon after, they settled at the mouth of Martin's Fork [Quicks Run] in Lewis County, Kentucky. Jacob married Margaret (Peggy) Cox, a widow whose husband [Obadiah Cox] and children had been killed by Indians near Brush Creek in Adams County, Ohio. Margaret MeCleese was the daughter of Daniel McCleese and Catharine McAllister [sometimes spelled McKlaster]. She was born about 1768 in Pennsylvania and died about 1850 in Lewis County. They had the following: Christina, born ca. 1800, Mason Co., Ky; married Samuel J. Riley, April 1, 1816, in Lewis County. I am descended from their daughter, Harriett, who married Lewis Plummer. Anna, born ca. 1802, Kentucky, married James Pell, June 9, 1825, died before 1887 in Lewis County. Jacob, Jr., born ca. 1804, married Frances Griffith, March 29, 1826, died 1842 in Lewis County. Lewis C., born 1809, married Elizabeth Ruggles. Peter, born, ca. 1812, married Elizabeth Ginn, December 5, 1831 Anna <[email protected]>

    2. There were PLUMMERs in Virginia and one of them married one of Michael THOMAS's daughters from his first wife. I am fairly sure that is where the name Plummer came from for his son Plummer THOMAS by his second wife. And the PLUMMERs may have came to Ky with the THOMAS family. Sue

    2. Diane: Recently someone posted the story about all the marriages performed in Brown Co OH...apparently quite a business in the mid 1800s. Georgetown is quite a ways from the river but it is the county seat so some of the marriages are recorded there. However, many of the people were actually married in boats on the Ohio and never set foot on OH soil. My husband's great grandparents, Richard and Eliza Jane Smith McDaniel actually did go into Aberdeen, the town on the banks of the river. Your name Permelia caught my eye as one of the McDaniel lines from Montgomery Co KY uses that name. Bonny McDaniel << I have Elijah COX (born Kentucky) married to Lydia MARTIN (born Kentucky), who lived in Lewis County KY. Their daughter Permelia COX (1826-1905) was married in Georgetown, Brown County OHIO to Aaron BULL in 1845, so I think that the family went back and forth across the river. >>
