I'm looking for Plummers in the Lewis County environs, but I'm looking two or three generations before Christine. Do you have any information on Syntha Ann Plummer (b. 1806) or her parents, Abraham Plummer and Nancy Burriss? Any help appreciated. Thanks. Hi, I knew I had seen the name Plummer on some other record related to Andrew KOCH and Cristina PLUMMER. On the marriage record of Andrew's daughter, Sarah Sally COOK and Samuel BOYD, the witnesses were Alfred HARRISON and Lewis PLUMMER. Thanks again for your help. Janet Estep
Hi, Roxann, Andrew and Cristina are listed on the 1870 Lewis Co. census in the Elk Fork District: Andrew Koch, age 29 Farmer, $750, born in Germany Cristina J. Koch, age 18 Keeping house, born in Kentucky Arpunta (Spelling???), age 7 months, born in Kentucky In 1880: Andrew Cook, age 45 or 46 (I believe this is not the correct age), Farmer, Born in Hamburg, Germany Minnie Cook, age 11, daughter, born in KY Sallie Cook, age 8, daughter, born in KY Charles Cook, age 6, son, born in KY Mary Cook, age 70, Mother, born in Germany This leads me to believe that Cristina died between 1874 and 1880, and Andrew's mother came to live with him to take care of the children. Where did you find the marriage record? This is obviously the Andrew and Cristina I'm looking for. I believe I have Andrew's passenger record from 1863 from Bremen to US, but I haven't located a naturalization record yet that would prove it's him. I'm working on that. Are you related to Andrew and Cristina? Thanks so much. Janet Estep >>> Donshafer31@aol.com 10/25/01 08:31PM >>> Janet - I found a Lewis County marriage record for Andrew Kock and Christine J. Hello, I'm researching Andrew A. KOCH or COOK (the Americanized spelling), who was on the 1880 and 1870 Lewis Co., KY census. I'm specifically looking for these records: Death of Andrew Cook (after 1880) Death of Cristina Cook (between 1874 and 1880) Death of Mary Cook or Koch (after 1880) Marriage of Andrew KOCH and Cristina J. ______ (1868-1869) I've contacted Lewis Co. Clerk who had no records; I wrote to Vital Statistics who has no records available for these time periods. What do researchers do in Kentucky about locating death records? And marriage records? Thanks. Janet Estep

Hi, Sorry, I do not have any information on this family. I am amazed at lack of Aills information. They seemed to have been in leadership positions, owned a lot of property, yet nothing is available on a personal level. My Sarah Ann Aills married James McCorkle in Lewis County, KY, 1838. He was from Lawrence County, OH. Their first three children were born in OH. Then the family settled in Cabell County, VA, that later became W.Va. Please add my name to your address book and if we find information we can share. Thank you for your reply. Karen Smith
Dear Lin and Karen, In researching my Coffrin line, I found Rachael Aills who married Constantine Coffrin 13 Dec 1852 in Scioto Co., Ohio. (Ancestry.com database: Ohio Marriages, 1803-1900 lists her surname as "Ellis," apparently a transcription error.) Their son, Plummer Coffrin, was born 3 Dec 1853 in Lewis Co. KY. (From "Shakin' & Diggin', Sep. 1997.) Constantine married Elizabeth Pell on 17 May 1855 in Lewis Co. KY, so Rachael may have died between 1853 and 1855. I have no other record of the baby, Plummer, so he may have died, too. This is all the information I have about Rachael Aills Coffrin. Do you have any other information about her? Carol Cox

Hi, I am still researching my elusive AILLS family. I have a note that states, there was an Aills Christian Church in Vanceburg, Lewis County, KY and that valley was full of Aills. If this is true why can't I find them?? Can someone enlighten me? Is this church still there? Is there history on the Lewis County churches? Will someone also give me the email address for the newspaper there? Thanks so much. Karen Smith

We had,as I remember,Nathan Morgan's Jr-Sr and Enoch Morgan a few miles from the Ohio River, here in s Clermont Co,Oh. Say,1805,for 1814,son Enoch Morgan bought my Capt-Lt-Rev-JP George Brown big,or pulpit Bible at his estate sale. Couple ladies told me about them 20 years ago. Had a circut migration that started at the Welsh Tract of Pecander Hundred,n Del-Cecil Co Md. iron mining Welsh colony of 1710. But you don't show Welsh 1st names. Maybe even Jacob and Valentine might be Germanic. Thomas Shelton,MARRYING JP ,of Aberdeen,Ohio's marriages,in most part, were put in the Mason Co Historical Soc library,Sutton St, Maysville,by Pat Donaldson Mills. JP Massie Beasley's marriages ,OF Aberdeen,Oh are said to be lost, except those recorded in their home county by the young couple. 1863 was when WV was cut from Va. His pension application indicates that he was born in Covington, KY. Since he enlisted at Covington, KY it could well be that the answer on the pension application is in error. John Valentine Morgan served in the Civil War with the Union Forces in Company I 55th Regiment of the Kentucky Mounted Infantry he enrolled as a Private on the 23rd day of February 1865. His combined service record shows that he had previously served in Company H, 10th Regiment of the Kentucky Cavalry and was discharged on April 20, 1863. He served in the Kentucky Mounted Infantry Volunteers under Capt. Alexander W. (Lauwill) and was honorably discharged on the 19th of September 1865 at Louisville, KY. He was 5'10'' with Brown Hair and Blue eyes. He was treated in the Hospital in Lexington, Ky June 7th and 8th, 1865 and was listed as malingering and deserted on June 8, 1865. He was reported as a deserter to the Pro. Mar. on June 10th at Lexington, KY. He states in one part of his application that he resided in Mason Cnty, Ky. from the time of his discharge to July 1877 and since in Adams Cnty, Ohio. In another part of his file he states that he resided from 1871-76 in Lewis Cnty, KY. He states that his occupation is that of a farmer. His address on the 26th of June 1897 is Blue Creek, Adams Cnty., Ohio and that he lives on Johnson's Run. On January 31, 1898 he indicated that he is married to Louisa Sartain that they were married on September 18th 1864 in Aberdeen, Brown, Ohio and that the record of marriage is recorded at Georgetown, Brown Cnty, Ohio. He further lists his children and their birthdates. On March 20, 1915 he answers Pension questions indicating that he enlisted at Maysville, KY and that Thomas Shelton at Aberdeen, Ohio married him and Louisa Sartain. His wife and he are living together and he again lists children and dates of birth He answers pension question that his parents were John and Mary Morgan and that he was an only child. In various answers to census and pension documents he lists his parents birthplaces as VA, KY and OH. In the 1860 census John V. Morgan is found living with Mary A. Morgan a woman of the age of 65 who is likely his grandmother. He is 14 in this census and was born in VA. Mary A. Morgan was born in VA. Also with the family is John C. Morgan, born VA, and his wife Francis, that are of the age that they could be John V. Morgan's cousins or uncle. In 1850 another males by the name of Nathan, born VA, and David P. born VA, is also living along with Mary A. Morgan and others. These men along with John V. Morgan served in the same KY cavalry unit in the Civil War futher giving credibility to the fact that they are related. In Civil War pension materials David P. Morgan states that he is the brother of John C. Morgan. This clearly links the two of them and likely to Nathan since they all lived together with Mary A. Morgan in 1850 but leaves the exact link to John V. open. Notes: 1. Nathan Morgan's Widows pension file contains a marriage license copy wherein it is stated that the marriage took place in Boyd Cnty, KY at the home of Jacob Morgan and was witnessed by Jacob Morgan, Andrew Morgan and Jane Mann. 2. Nathan Morgan's Widows pension file contains an affidavit of 3/10/1891 that is signed by Jacob Morgan that states that he lived within a mile of Nathan and Rachel (first wife) when she died and that this is the same Nathan that served in the Civil War and married Jane Cooley. This Jacob Morgan is aged 68 and resides in Ironton, Lawrence Cnty, OH at this date. 3. Jacob Morgan is the son of Mary Morgan the women that ties all these people together for nearly 40 years. Jacob has proven siblings of Lovina and Elizabeth if Mary is the mother of Nathan, John C. and David P. then we have 5 children with others likely. Needed Information 1.
