Dear Dave Osborne and All Lewis County, Kentucky Researchers, Of all the communities in Lewis County, Kentucky, from Firebrick to Cottageville, from Vanceburg to Ruggles to Burtonville and in between, there is one town that has my attention more than all the rest, and that is the little spot on the Ohio River at Briery Creek known as Quincy. Quincy was home to my third-great grandfather William COOPER from about 1852 to about 1859, and again in the 1870's, when he was living in the home of [Steamboat] Captain John BOYLE, whose wife was Catherine "Katie" HACKWORTH. John BOYLE's business partner was Henry MCKEE, who married Susanna HACKWORTH, a sister of Catherine and daughters of John HACKWORTH. John W. WOODWORTH was a close friend of William COOPER, having been his neighbor in Quincy and also a war comrade in Company E of the 22nd Regiment, Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, Union Army. John WOODWORTH was one of the providers of affidavits for William COOPER's pension application, in which he stated that he was by COOPER's side when he fell wounded in the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou, Mississippi, 29 Dec 1862. A.M. [Alfred] THOMPSON, another friend of William COOPER, also lived in Quincy, and married Annie B. SAMPLE. The two witnesses to William COOPER's pension application, filed in 1880, were Captain John BOYLE and A.M. THOMPSON. Who were the OSBORNEs of Quincy? And, if you are researching any of the above surnames of Quincy, please contact me, so we can share information and gain a clearer picture of the life of this community. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you. Randal W. Cooper <[email protected]> Lorain, Ohio

Hi! New to the list, and am researching on hubbies side of the family. Supposedly, according to an Aunt.... we are related to the LEWIS that discovered Lewis county. However, I don't think this is true! I'm looking for any information on NEAL (possibly O'NEAL) A.D and LEWIS, Jenny Belle. Thanks for any and all information!! Hi! I thought I would let y'all know that I have a lot of Kentucky families represented in my database at my web site for the Denton and related families. There are over 15,000 people in the database, plus a lot of other information on the site. If any of you have Dentons in your lines, I would love to hear from you! There are also some down-loadable gedcom files for families other than Denton that I have in my at-home database, such as Hunt, Moore, Plumlee, Cooper, Chastain, O'Dell, French, Shipman, Baker and Huff. All of these families intersect in some way with the Dentons, but have a great deal more information in the individual gedcoms than is on the database at the site. There is a lot of other information on the site as well that you might find interesting, as well. The address is: http://www.acun.com/dentons I hope you find something of value! Blessings!
