From about 1910 up to and through the 1920's several deputies were killed or wounded due to bootlegging and then prohibition. If you check the fiscal court orders you may find mention of the person your checking on. It might mention if and when they were deputized. Sometimes it is mentioned there. If it is not mentioned there it doesn't mean the person was not deputized, only that it was not recorded in those court orders. These records are on microfilms. Also in the Mountain Eagle it mentions any killing or wounding of a deputy from time to time.
