There is a town named Bath located in Knott County, just north of Letcher County (for a nice topographic map of the area see http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=37.2425&lon=-82.9114&s=50&size=l ). I'm not totally sure, but I believe that this area of Knott County was once Letcher County. Knott County was formed from portions of Letcher, Perry, Breathitt and Floyd Counties in 1884. As far as whether Bath was there in 1842 when Letcher County was formed, I couldn't say for sure. Brian K.
