He was born in Letcher County, Ky., on Dec. 18, 1922, the son of Jerry and Betty (Lawson) Fields. Mr. Fields worked in the coal mines in Kentucky for 19 years, and also was employed as a heat treater for Metallurgical for 23 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zerta Fields in 1988; by two sons, Leonard and Bill Collier; and a sister Alma Smith. Surviving are six children, Pionas Collier and Gene Collier, both of Dayton, Pete Collier of Carlisle, Vivian Cook of Clyde, Martha Smith of Carlisle, and Carol Profitt of Republic; a sister, Edna Leveridge of Louisville, Ky.; and 23 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren. ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday April 2, at Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, Ohio, with the Revs. Greg Banks and John Banks officiating.
