Va., on Saturday, Dec. 2, 1944. Aunt Katie, as she was known to her friends and loved ones, had been in Louisa, Ky, working for the Codell Construction Company since September. At the time of her passing she was 57 years, 8 months and 19 days of age. She was married to Joseph E. Day who preceeded her in death on October 26, 1923. She is survived by two sons and three daughters and one foster-son: John L. Day, Elbert Day and Floyd Roberts of Dongola, Ky.; Mrs. Leona Reynolds, Partridge, Ky., Mrs. Dolly Fields and Mrs. Verna Flannery of Dongola, Ky.; three brothers, Jim Roberts, Bellcraft; Ed Roberts of Norton, Va.; and Joe Roberts of Kingsport, Tenn. and several grand-children. Thirty-two years ago she joined the Little Cowan Primitive Baptist Church and lived a good Christian life. She was a "friend in need" - a friend to everyone. Her jovial, friendly help was sought and always welcomed by her many friends. She will be sadly missed. The remains were brought back to the home of Mrs. Verna Flannery of Cowan, on Monday. Funeral services were conducted at the Little Cowan Church on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 10:00 A. M. with Elds. Pleas Jenkins of Kingsport, Tenn.; Jesse Gilly and Frank Gilly of Benham, Ky., officiating. Burial in the Day Cemetery, Cowan. Craft Funeral Home in charge. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The information I have shows that Joseph E. Day was born on February 18, 1878, and was the son of John L. Day and Easter Brown. Joseph and Katie (Elizabeth Catherine "Katie" Roberts) were married on January 1, 1900, in Letcher County, KY. I have Katie's parents listed as Gayland Roberts and Easter Kilgore. I hope this helps. Brian K.
