I am trying to tie down who his parents were. All records show Obediah and Mary Fields. But, family say that James' father was really a man with the surname of Ethridge or Estridge and that his mother was Jenny Fields and that they were never married. They also say James had a sister named Elizabeth who had red hair. Does anyone have any information of this? Any help would be appreciated.
