I have written the following letters to Brian concerning the fact that I have copied the contents of all Caudill and also the Back books into my database. For years I have added to those lines from other sources so that my database is huge with the Back, Caudill and many other connecting families. I am happy to help anyone that can take a Gedcom file from my Family Origins program. >> The information from the Caudill books (and Back books) has been >> incorporated into my Family Origins database with notes under each >> individual. It is not a separate database, but has been incorporated >> with all my other lines. Reports or GEDCOM files could be generated, >> for specific requests. But my database is so large and vast that I >> don't see how I could only send Caudill only from the books. > In answer to your question, it is possible to produce a GEDCOM file from Family Origins. I did some experimenting with the descendants of Thomas Caudill and the resulting file includes over 90,000 individuals and is over 20 MB in size. This includes more than just the Caudill books of course.

(Actually, though I do include an extremely large Caudill family tree in my book, "The Caudills," the focus of this work is the origin and meaning of the Caudill name, not the genealogy of the Caudill family.) My Caudill research is independent of Mr. Clayton Cox, so I can't comment specifically on individuals in his books. However, I consider him a fine researcher and genealogist and list him in my book as a resource for those studying the Caudills. Sorry, but I have no documentation for your Caudill line. Thank you for your interest in our Caudill family history. God bless, Lochlainn

Sept 19, 1924 Kelly, Lura A. b. Mar 5, 1873 d. April 25, 1954 This leads one to believe that William J. Kelly divorced his first wife and then married Laura, Lura. The children it appears had no problem burying them all together. I have not been able to connect Laura to the Clark/Clarkston families.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FBB.2ACE/1006 Message Board Post: Can anyone help me? The Letcher Co, KY web site, lists the marriage 13 Jul 1891 of William J. Kelly to Lucy Clarkston. Anc.com OneWorldTree, gives this William's full name as William Jasper Kelly, son of John Jackson Kelly (1821) and Virginia J. 'Jane' Booth. I cannot absolutely prove that, but I did find a bit of documentation to support that entry. The 1850 census of Lee Co, VA and the 1860 Wise Co, VA which shows William Kelly in the hh of John Kelly and Jane. According to the same OneWorldTree entry, this William Jasper Kelly married 1st to Katherine Martha Day. This marriage would have happened about 1870, but I could not find this William Kelly and Katherine in 1870 ... anywhere, but she was from KY, so I am assuming (dangerous practice), that was how this William J. Kelly ended up in Letcher Co, KY William and Katherine had the following children; Florence 1872, Joseph Patrick 1874, Jasper Newton 1875, Preston Henderson 1878, James N. 1880, John J. 1882, Charles 1885, and Martha J. 1886, all b. Letcher Co, Kentucky except Martha who may have been born in VA I did find this William and Katherine in the 1880 Letcher Co, Census. Still wondering where he was in 1870 ?? He was in Letcher Co when he married Laura A/Lucy Clarkston in 1891. I have found William J. and Laura A. "Lucy" in the 1900 and 1910 census of Wise Co, VA, but nothing after that. Can anyone tell me when and where Katherine, William, and/or Laura/Lucy died and where they are buried. Can anyone help me find the parents of Laura/Lucy Clarkston? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gloria Kay Vandiver Inman http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/v/a/n/Gloria-kay-Vandiverinman/

With this in mind, I would really like to see some of your replies to Caudill queries posted in the message boards instead of requiring that they email you privately. I'm not suggesting that you dump your entire book into the reply, but a "bit" of positive information, and then offering more via email might be a possible alternative to the total privacy issue. My mother was born a Caudill and now resides in a nursing home in Spokane, WA. I have her ancestry back many, many generations. I worked closely with Clayton Cox, who devoted his life to the research of, and authored "Appalachian Crossroads" - The Caudill Family - THREE Large Volumes. containing 2,865 pages, INDEXED, and published in 1993. I have two sets of these books, which I refer to often. I started out researching the ancestry of my grandfather, William Harlan Caudill b. 1883 Letcher Co, KY, but when I met Clayton, I deferred to his work and went on to devote my life's work to the research of the family of his wife, my grandmother, Celia Melvina Clark (the Clarkstons). My question would be; how closely does your work correspond with Clayton Cox's work? Have you found any major errors you would like to share? My only argument with Clayton (when he was compiling his work) was that he didn't include any pictures or source documentation, but his argument was that he had such a massive amount of data, that realitically, there wasn't any room to include pictures or documentation, but that the documentation was available for anyone willing to do some elementary research starting with the information he provided. I would like to hear from you. I am particularly interested in documenting the family of William Caudill b, ca 1825 prob Letcher co, KY, who md 2 jun 1847 Letcher co, KY to Sarah 'Sally' Christian Gloria Kay Vandiver Inman "Kay" http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/v/a/n/Gloria-kay-Vandiverinman/

Greetings, Combs family researchers indicate that Shadrack Combs (s/o John "Soldier John" Combs and Margaret Nantz) had several children out of wedlock with Rebecca Stacey: Kendrick (who married Elizabeth Jones, d/o Jonathan T Jones and Lucinda [?]), Biram, and Cynthy. Shadrack was born about 1784 in Virginia, but migrated with his brothers into southeast Kentucky, and apparently lived in Letcher. Does anyone happen to know who the parents of Rebecca Stacey were? Thank you for any help you might be able to provide. Best regards, Kenneth __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
