Surnames: Spears, Goins Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FBB.2ACE/706.1 Message Board Post: Walter (42) and Lulla Spears (37) are listed in the 1930 Letcher County, KY census, but do not have a daughter named Ellen or "M", and no child or theirs was born after 1922. That could be a census error. Both are from Tennessee, and all of their children except Johnie 14 were born in Tennessee.

Surnames: Goins, Spears, Goings, Goines Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FBB.2ACE/706 Message Board Post: After banging my head against the preverbial Genealogy wall for the last few months I think I have found a break. I recently discovered what a Melungeon is, and that I possibly am one. Anyway, I am trying to find info on Lula Goins who had a daughter named Ellen M. Spears. I found the birth record. Ellen was born August 1926 in Lechter county, KY. I am guestimating that Lula would be around 20 something, so she was probably born around early 1900's. I think maybe if Lula is a nickname, her real name may be Talulla. Ellen evertually married my grandfather. Please any help would be Greatly appreciated. Clarknrigsby@hotmail.com Thanks

Surnames: Rigsby Spears Neon KY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FBB.2ACE/666.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Deb: Thanks - I have recently discovered more info about Neon KY and the link. Some of my prior info was off. I have traced my grandfathers line back a few generations, but its grandma who's giving me trouble. Since you have been doing this a while it seems, maybe you could give me a few pointers. It seems her name has some discrepancies. My mother says her name was Eleanor Marie Spears. My cousin says she went by Marie. Also I understand from my research that Spears and Sparks are sometimes confused. She may or may not have had a brother named William. It also happens to be my Grandfather's name (her husband). My Great Grandfather was a coal miner. They were from Charmco WV area. Stands to reason with the coal industry in Neon KY , Lechter co. thats how they got to this area. The NEON KY is a definete. The rest is making me bonkers. Any help would be great. __THANKS

    1. [KYLETCHE] Children of William Martin and Maryland Hall?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: hall, martin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FBB.2ACE/702 Message Board Post: I am trying to update my Sergent genealogy. Can anyone give me a definitive list of the children of William Martin and Maryland Hall? William is s/o Emily Ritter Sergent and Allen Martin, b. July 18, 1884, d. October 31, 1934. Maryland was born c. 1895; I have no death date. On the 1930 census, their children read as follows (I am using Ancestry.com's spelling): Miner 18 Son Ethel 16 Daughter Coye 14 Son Anne 12 Son Dola 10 Daughter Cecil 7 Son Aline 5 Daughter Clarine 2 Daughter Samuel 0 Son >From the Letcher County website at rootsweb.com, I have the following from Letcher County Births, 1911-1920 (I am using the spelling from the Letcher County site): Loulie Martin, born November 2, 1913 (I think this may be Ethel) Arlie Martin, December 1, 1915 (I think this may be "Anne", because "Anne" is listed as a boy on the 1930 census.) Lute Martin, November 13, 1919 Delia Martin, April 24, 1920 (There may be a mistake on these last two because the dates are so close, it's physically impossible for Maryland Hall to have given birth to both of them unless one died prematurely and was named.) >From Letcher County Births, 1921-1930, I have the following children: Evo (Eva?) Martin, May 11, 1925 Lawrence Martin, October 18, 1927 Samuel Martin, born February 14, 1930 >From Letcher County Births, 1931-1940, I have the following children (not on the 1930 census): Willie Martin, Jr., born January 7, 1935 Virgil Martin, born April 25, 1932 The problem I am having is that the list of children I'm finding in the 1930 census don't completely match with the list from Letcher County Births, and I've gotten completely confused. Can anyone help me out? Tina Seward
