Have seen some references to his being included in the Letcher County Families History volume. Does anyone know where I may obtain a copy of this? Too, does anyone know of his descendants who may be living in the Letcher County area? As I have traced - through other individuals' reportings - I find errors that I know to be "for real" and I would like to communicate with other family members who may reside there. Hope today is a good one and that tomorrow is even better! Gail

Her daughter Hortense Lee was born in Russell County Virginia in 1861. At one time or another Rachel Lee lived in Roanoke Virginia. Rachel would have been about 18 years old when her daughter was born. There was no father listed on Hortense's birth record so Maybe Rachel was not married yet. Now I am sure that Rachel Lee married Henry Bates in KY on March 13, 1870 and had several Bates children.... but I have been given other names for her husbands from the children of Hortense and Joseph Reynolds such as Jim Turner and Isaac Friley. Seems like I should be able to find a Rachel Lee listed on the 1860 Russell County Census since Hortense her daughter was born there in 1861 but no luck yet. 1880 Letcher County Kentucky Census #328 Bates Henry C. 35 K K K farmer Rachel 37 V V V Marget 06 K K V see birth record Letcher KY mother's name is Rachel Lee James M. 03 K K V Belle D. 12/1879 <1 K K V Bates John 27 K K K brother Martha 25 K K K sister James 17 K K K brother * Lee Hortence 19 V V V servent (or stepdaughter?) 1861 birth Record Russell Co VA lists her mother as Rachel Lee Irven 12/1879 <1 K K V boarder (son of Hortense and "Buddy" Baker) Thanks for your time with all of this Kristie

I am putting the finishing touches on the Kentucky Death Certificate CD and it is set to be mailed out by Feb 7, 2004. There is still time to get involved though. If you have Death Certificates with a KENTUCKY connection, born, died or lived any part of their lives in Kentucky and would like to be a part of this project. E-mail your scanned JPEG death certificates to me at foe3643@mac.com The cost for the CD is $2.00 per CD (not death certificate) this will cover shipping and handling and the cost of the CD. The only stipulation is that you MUST donate atleast one death certificate to the project. However, the more each of us donate the larger the project will be. As of Feb 1, 2004 I currently have 1,800 death certificates that will be included on the CD. If this project proves to be a success I hope to continue it and put out one CD every six months or until there is no more interest in the Death Certificates. Anyone needing more information please feel free to e-mail me at the above address. And don't forget to drop by Tombstone Central: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~foe3643/ Cassy Sommers

That Hop Gibson had daughters Minnie Vae, Mattie Vern, Beulah, and Virginia. Virginia married a man named Brown and had two sons, Joe and Stephen. Mattie Vern married Edward Banks and had a son Russell, I think, and a daughter Molly. Minnie Vae married Bernard Banks and had children Verna Lee, Ginnie Ruth, Donald, John, Patrick, Carol and Linda. Beulah married a Caudill and had daughters Susan and I cannot remember the other's name. I hope this helps. Charlie
