Miss Rachel Fields, the accomplished daughter of Attorney Ira Fields, has just returned from London, where she has been attending school since Christmas. Stephen Jenkins, a prominent young man of Ola, has been visiting the "Catskins" Hotel regular recently. Has he got you 'out,' Captain? Just as I expected. He was born April 18, 1925, in Jenkins, [Letcher County]Kentucky, to Charles and Arlene (Moore) Stewart. He served our great country during World War II as a Technical Sergeant and worked as a heavy equipment operator in the Lucina Islands. Johnce retired through the Ohio Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. On May 21, 1949, he married Elva Lee Smith and together they had one son, Johnce Wayne Stewart. Johnce and Elva Lee lived most of their lives in Mt. Healthy, Ohio until 2000, then moving to Sharps Chapel, Tennessee where they resided for almost 4 years on Norris Lake. They most recently returned home to Ohio to begin farming with their family. Johnce and Elva Lee loved to travel and fish. Johnce enjoyed talking on his CB radio as often as he could. He was a member of the College Hill Lodge #641 F.&A.M. Johnce is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elva Lee Stewart of Hamilton; his son, Johnce (Betty) Stewart of Fairfield; his brother, Jack (Frances) Stewart of Hamilton; his sister, Jeanie Johnson of California; two granddaughters, Lynn (Eric) Boeppler and Johnce Lee Metz, both of Fairfield and seven great-grandchildren; Austin Cline, Tyler Boeppler, Dakota Boeppler, Savannah Boeppler, Deston Boeppler, Dylan Metz and Derek Metz, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and tons of wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, Silas and Leon Stewart of Michigan and sister, Orbena Young of Kentucky. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2004, at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield, with Dave Hargrave officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, at the funeral home. At the start of the 1900's Adams was the most common surname in Letcher county. There were three different sets of Adamses at that time in letcher county. It is very possible that James E. Adams as sheriff was mentioned in some of the old newspapers.

What info I have states that James died July 18,1920 in Wallins Creek, Ky. Can you tell me what county Wallins Creek is or was in? We don't have a date of the family photo, but knowing that George was born in 1889, he looks to be mid to late teens in the photo. This leads me to believe that James died within a few years after the photo was taken. We do not know cause of death either. Thank you again for all your help

You might be able to look up Letcher County cemetaries or Letcher Co. has a historical society that you can go to their website or look on the Whitesburg,Ky. website and maybe there is a link since Whitesburg is in Letcher Co. and that is where the courthouse is located. Some of these ancestors are: Stephen CAUDILL & Sarah (Yonts) CAUDILL William YONTS & Margaret (Bentley) YONTS Matthew CAUDILL & Sarah (Webb) CAUDILL (this one I'm not sure about where they died......) James WEBB & Elizabeth "Lettie" (Nelson) WEBB (I have that Lettie died in Ovenfork) If anyone knows where these folks are buried and where the cemeteries are located, I would greatly appreciate it!
